Chapter 30 - Chapter 29. Hunt

Lyan

Going through the portal felt as if someone had picked me apart and then glued me back together. It was a weird feeling, not bad, but unnerving.

I looked around and found that the portal I had comed from had disappeared and I was in the middle of the forest. Trees as tall as a house sorrounded me everywhere and I could hear the sound of the forest: birds chirping, the sound of rustling leaves moved by a gentle breeze and I could even hear the sound of a nearby ravine, but there were no signs of any monsters or any animals being nearby.

I breathed a sigh of relief. I wasn't just worried about the mosters. Granted they were scary, but there were just a few of them. I was more scared about what normaly lived here. Most animals in the forest were normal ones, like rabbits, or bears, but those I could deal with. The ones that sent dread all over my body were the hippogriffs, which lived deep in the forest, and the Sharken, a common snake species, no bigger than my forearm, but what made it so special was it's ability to grow over twenty feet tall and devour all their prey. Kessis, Runnan, and Mirkat were other species I had to be careful of. All of them could grow to over twenty or thirty times their size or had either incredible defense or attack, and some of them even had magic.

I started looking around, searching for the Yisuro monsters. My strategy was to hunt ten of them. I didn't want to risk attacking the big monsters. They gave lots of points, but I knew my abilities, and so the hunt began.

I gathered my shadows around myself and slowly pushed them out and into the forest. I felt as they spread through the ground and started searching for signs of life.

I found some bugs and small animals, but the Yisuro were nowhere to be found. I started to worry as the sun moved through the sky and into the ground. By now I was starving, but there was no food to be found anywhere. I groaned as my stomach grumbled and I ignored it as I sent my shadows further into the forest.

I was thinking about nothing in particular. I was just not paying attention to my sorroundings at all, when my shadows felt something and called me over. I went over after jumping almost three feet in the air due to the shock of being called over when I was in my own world.

The shadows were near a small pond, gathering around a bush. I went over slowly, not really expecting anything after they had already called me over four times, only to find that, surprise, surprise, there were rabbits and foxes in the forest, and crouched down to take a better look at the bush.

A small cute little ball of fur was hiding in the bush.

" Come here cutie. I'm not going to hurt you"

I ordered my shadows to break the bush and I stretched my arm to pick up the rabbit. The animal turned around in a swift movement and tried to bite me, but my shadows were ready and stopped it before it could hurt me.

" Stop resisting and come with me. I won't hurt you"

I sent my shadows to pick the rabbit and with care I dropped him near my feet. At that moment I realized that thing wasn't a rabbit. I smiled when I realized this was a Yisuro. The creature I had been looking for this whole time.

I looked at the Yisuro, but this time I really looked. His appearance was very similar to that of a real rabbit. He had soft white fur and four little legs under him. The only thing that gave him away was the fact that he had two tails and purple, glowing eyes.

The Yisuro was trembling, trying to hide his little body beneath some leaves. His body was shivering so hard that the ground beneath him was trembling, the leaves moving up and down from the vibrations.

His big, purple eyes were looking at me filled with fear. I looked him in the eyes and just saw a little animal trying to survive. He shouldn't die just because he was different and scary. Humans and mages were way too cruel.

" Go now. Run away"

I lowered my shadows, which were ready to strike, and motioned with my hands for him to go. The Yisuro just looked at me and started waddling towards me with his little legs.

He threw himself into my arms and I hugged him. His fur was sooo soft and he smelled like grass.

I was so happy he had come to my arms that I didn't notice the reason why he had done that until a roar sounded in front of me and I raised my head to see a Kurushha looking right at me.

Mark

I'd been wandering for a while now, not hearing any noises that suggested there were monsters in the forest and without seeing any signs of them either.

I was beginning to get bored and was still uneasy about having left Lyan alone, but Jack said he would go after her and that I should chill, so here I was, doing absolutely nothing as I wandered the forest without any real purpose to hunt anything, when all of the sudden the ground disappeared from beneath my feet and I fell. I felt as if I was flying for a second before I ended up in a hole twenty feet below the forest ground.

" Great" I said while rubbing my sore ass.

I turned to check my sorroundings. The hole was big enough for five people to stand side by side and had a tunnel that went into the earth. The tunnel was as black as black could be and I shivered thinking I would have to go that way.

I looked above one last time and completely discarded any idea of going up that way. I would only end up with multiple wounds and I heavily doubted I would manage to get out.

I cast an illumination spell, and taking out a dagger that Oscar had made me hide in my boot, I walked to the dark tunnel.

My light cast shadows in the walls, making weird silhouettes that gave me the creeps. There was nothing here that could cast those shadows, but they were still there.

The ground crunched under my feet as I stepped over old bones and debris. I kept walking and walking.

" Iaaaaahhh!!!" I heard a sound coming from the wall to my right.

I turned to look, raising my dagger to defend myself, but it was already too late. A great Sharken tackled me to the ground, breaking my ribs and some other bones and the last thing I saw was him seething over me as the world went blank.

Orus

This exercise was like taking candy from a baby. I had already killed a Kurushha who had the audacity to attak me first and already had the points I needed, so I left the corpse in a safe spot I could remember and left off to wander the forest and look for my mate.

In the way there I found a deer. It looked me in the eyes and ran, but not faster than me. I outran it easily and slit it's throat with my claws. My whole body felt electrified from the hunt. Sure it has been short, but it was he first time I had hunted in a while.

I dropped to the ground, near the dead deer, and smelled the blood. Just the coppery smell sent spikes of pleasure all over my body. I licked my lips, already tasting the blood and not caring about modals or about how I'd look after at all as I began eating the deer.

It's blood tasted good, but not as good as Lyan's. The moment the blood hit my tongue I couldn't help but compare. Lyan's blood was way better and I sulked. Why couldn't I taste her blood right now?

After I was full all that remained of the deer were it's bones. I was now covered in blood, but I cast a simple cleaning spell and went back my way.

I focused on our bond and tried to find her position through it. I sensed she was calm right now, so I didn't have to hurry. I kept walking leisurely towards the pull from the bond, stopping every now and then to pick some flowers and give them to my mate as a gift.

I only picked the best flowers. Those that shone or whose color were so beautiful they made you doubt they were real.

I was happily humming, flowers in hand, when a purple ball of fur launched itself at me. I managed to cast a fire spell just in time and I watched as the Yisuro, blue eyes gleeming with rage, burned into a crisp. Before it burned completely I stopped the fire and after picking up the carcass and hiding it in a tree which I marked with my claws, I continued my walk, flowers in hand, to find Lyan.

I really hoped she hadn't encountered a Yisuro. The purple motherfuckers attacked anything that moved, no matter the size. That was what made the mages consider them monsters. That and the fact that they hailed from the demon world.

I was lowering to pick up a shiny red rose when I felt the sharp tinge of fear in my mouth, and it hadn't comed from me. I got up, no longer caring about the flowers as they all fell to the ground in disarray, and shifted into my dragon form.

The bond gave me the direction and I followed.

' Wait for me. I'm coming ' I thought as I soared through the sky.

Jack

Killing the Yisuro wasn't easy. Those tricky little things dodged like no other. On my way to find Lyan I had encountered twelve of them and I now had twelve corpses hidden under the debris and in bushes.

The sun had long since passed it's zenit and I was still looking for Lyan, only now my stomach hurt from hunger.

I looked around and found an apple tree, or what according to the phone in my pocket was an apple tree. I picked one of the fruits and nearly lost my mind with the taste. It was freaking amazing.

I picked some more and placed them all over my body, everywhere I could. I would give them to Lyan as a gift. I was dying to see the face she would make when she bit into them. The way she would moan and tilt her head....

Fuck it, I was hard.

I readjusted my pants as I kept walking and walking, not stopping to relieve my erection. For a minute I had thought about it, but common sense had won that round and instead of feeling good I was now walking through mud.

I moved my feet to take the next step, but instead of finding firm ground the soil started eating me up.

" Fuck. Quicksand!!"

I held still and looked around for anything to hold onto, but there was nothing. I started racking my head to find a spell to get me out of here, but all I could remember was a fire spell, a water one, one to breathe underwater and a levitation one.

' That's it' I thought as I cast the levitation spell just as the mud reached my chin, but instead of working my magic just flickered and died.

I looked around in a panic and saw Stephen seating in a stump, looking perfectly fine, not bothered at all, and definitely not willing to help me.

" Help me" I looked him in the eye, but instead of getting up he just looked back at me.

" Will you go out with me?"

I was confused as hell, but then I remembered the way he had always looked at me, and the way he had looked at Lyan, eyes filled with jealousy and I understood.

" Don't tell me you like me?" I said, mud now working it's way into my ears." 'Cause I'll never like you. You're too ugly" I knew I was digging my own grave, but I didn't care, that was the truth. I let him see the truth behind my words and he hissed as the mud now reached my nose and I was left unable to breathe.

I was still trying, and failing, to cast the spell, panic making it's way all over my system, when my magic suddenly returned and I got up, levitating above the forest ground. In Stephen's hand was a broken amulet, no doubt what had made me unable to use magic, shattered all over the floor.

" I love you" I heard him whisper just as Lyan's scream broke the air.

I moved myself to the source of the sound, but not before casting one last glance at Stephen, who was now in the ground. He was going to bring trouble. We'd have to keep an eye on him, but I forgot all about it when the scream repeated itself.
