Getting back to the SUV should have been easy.
We had parked several streets away from the hotel specifically so it wouldn't be crushed if the building collapsed again. That had been an excellent decision, and I would have taken full credit for it if I could remember which one of us made it.
Unfortunately, nobody had considered what would happen if the streets between the SUV and the hotel collapsed instead.
The road in front of us ended where an intersection had sunk several meters into the ground. Broken water lines poured into the hole, carrying pieces of pavement and enough black slime to confirm that several parts of the Devourer had gone with it.
The remaining buildings hadn't improved either.
