Chapter 502 - Today Was Finally Improving

Half-Jaw had lost an arm, most of its chest, and whatever remained of its dignity after crawling out from beneath the concrete, but it still tried to stand when I approached.

One leg bent the wrong way under its weight and forced it back down, although the zombie caught itself with its remaining hand before lifting its head toward me.

The empty section of jaw made identifying expressions difficult. Then again, it was a zombie. I might have been expecting too much.

"You did good," I told it before looking around the cavern.

A green core lay near the remains of one of the Devourer's collectors. I picked it up and held it out, but Half-Jaw didn't reach for it. Instead, every surviving zombie stopped moving.

Some remained partially buried beneath the rubble, while others stood between us and the dying pieces of the Devourer, but all of them looked from the core in my hand to my face.

"Oh, don't make this weird," I muttered as Half-Jaw lowered its head.
