Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: The Shadow of the Tarbosaurus

This dinosaur was around 33 feet tall; it looked like he could easily weigh five to seven tons, although because he was a dead shadow, it was hard to tell. His most fearsome weapon was, of course, his massive skull. It was a terrifying arsenal, a deep, powerful jaw lined with dozens of bone-crushing, serrated teeth.

Yet, like a strange, cruel joke of evolution, this magnificent beast was burdened with the most ridiculous feature: tiny, two-fingered forelimbs. These comical arms, vestigial and short, could not even reach his mouth, a strange contrast to the awesome power of his skull. They spoke of a creature that had prioritized the bite, the head strike, the sheer tonnage of his assault, shedding all reliance on what had become useless appendages.

Yes, in fact, this creature was an old dinosaur, one who used to live around here about 71 million years ago, ruling these lands. The dinosaur in front of them was a Tarbosaurus.

Now, the Tarbosaurus barely had time to react. Nysira, who had just put Jaune on her shoulder, immediately rushed around him. The shadow dinosaur was extremely confused; it did not know where to look, so it just kept spinning around.

Jaune then, thanks to all the kinetic energy generated by Nysira, created a single long wire. Suddenly, Jaune patted Nysira's shoulder like he was about to do something. Nysira, understanding that, changed direction.

"Lightning Track!"

Suddenly, Nysira rushed right under the enemy, leaving behind her a strong path entirely made of electricity, which completely exploded, burning the skin of the dinosaur.

The monster was now even more confused, and he completely fell on the ground. Once Jaune and Nysira were far enough, Jaune moved his wire, which started to press against the Tarbosaurus's skin. The dinosaur let out a loud moan, feeling the pain of the wire slowly entering his flesh.

The wire was strong, but not strong enough for the dinosaur, who was able to destroy them and get up once again. Suddenly, behind him, Sappho appeared once again.

"Mhmm… I want to play with more toys," said Sappho with an annoyed voice. It was like this fight was not enough fun for her and her toys, she wanted more.

"Guess I'll create more toys," she said, pointing toward the two humans who remained still. Suddenly, in front of the dinosaur, an army appeared.

But it wasn't an army of Krukins, nor an army of animals, in fact, they were humans.

"You should have died here like 500 years ago… let's see what you can do," said her as she turned away. All of the humans could use magic, and there were countless of them.

There were around 100 humans, and behind them a man who, based on his appearance, could be the general.

"They are an army of the people that fought in the Great War 500 years ago…" said Jaune, still on top of Nysira, who simply nodded and got ready to dodge all of their spells.

The Great War was an event that happened some months after the Earth crashed against the Black Planet. The humans already had magic, so for Jaune and Nysira, it was about to get really bad.

"As long as they are all people with normal magic, we can take them…" said Nysira, trying to calm both herself and Jaune.

"But if there is an Alterid, we might not know what to do…" added Jaune, his eyes locked with Nysira's.

Suddenly, a fireball was launched, all the soldiers had started their attack.

Nysira immediately moved right to dodge it, though a small part of Jaune's clothes ended up burning.

"LET'S GOOO!!" shouted Nysira as she rushed toward the battlefield, countless soldiers ready to stop and kill her and Jaune.

'It's too much for me… I should remove some,' thought Sappho as she made the dinosaur disappear, her body bleeding too much and her vision blurry.

As Nysira rushed toward the battlefield, an earth wall rose from the ground to block her and Jaune, but it did not stop them.

"I got you!!" yelled Jaune after seeing the wall. He created multiple wires on it so that Nysira would gain enough speed to rise over it.

Nysira nodded and immediately climbed the wall, but suddenly, some soldiers appeared on top of it. They were wind mages, and they immediately created strong gusts to push Nysira down.

Jaune completely fell off Nysira's shoulder and was holding himself by her orange hoodie.

Jaune heard footsteps, suddenly, from around the wall, multiple soldiers appeared. On the left side there were about 30 soldiers who could use water magic; on the right, 30 soldiers who could use fire magic.

All of them fired their spells at once, the fire mages created multiple fireballs, while those on the left created multiple water bubbles. At first, they were extremely fast, but once they reached the two humans, they lost power because of the strong wind pressure.

Jaune was able to create a strong wall with all the kinetic energy generated by Nysira, who kept running toward the wind mages. But suddenly, she got an idea that completely changed the situation. Instead of going toward the enemy, she chose to go in the opposite direction. She immediately rushed the other way, grabbing Jaune with her hand and helping him position himself better on her shoulder.

"Now make me and their spells faster, Jaune!" said Nysira.

Jaune was a bit confused by that. 'Make the spells faster? Why the hell…?' he thought, but no answer came to mind. It didn't matter now, he trusted Nysira more than anything.

'She definitely has something in mind… so who am I to say anything against her?' thought Jaune as he focused on creating the wires first in front of the enemies. They fired their spells, and they became extremely fast.

Then, right before the spells were about to crash into Nysira and Jaune, he created the wires to speed Nysira up, and she reached immeasurable speed, almost the speed of sound.

As she rushed forward, she immediately changed direction and went to the right. With all her strength, she rushed toward the soldiers and threw Jaune directly at the wall.

"Plasma Slash!!" shouted Nysira as her body became completely ionized.

"Lightning Track!!" she yelled.

Suddenly, she passed around the soldiers, and the lightning path beneath them completely charred them.

Jaune had used the kinetic energy gained by his body right before to create a small spike with his wires. He was holding onto these wires with his hand, while Nysira stopped right under him.

After that, their gaze turned toward the water magicians, who were completely destroyed by the fireballs cast by the dead soldiers. In fact, before, once Jaune protected himself and Nysira with his wires, she noticed that the bubbles were much weaker than the fireballs, because the fire was able to create some holes in Jaune's wire wall, unlike the water, which did not even leave a single scratch.

Jaune started to smile, looking toward Nysira, but suddenly the wind became stronger. The wind soldiers were still on top of the ground wall, and a hole randomly appeared right where Jaune was holding on. He lost his balance and started to fall directly to the ground.

"NO!!!" shouted Nysira, who grabbed Jaune as he was about to hit the ground. Then she immediately ran through the ground wall, not going straight but running along every face of the structure.

As she ran on it, the wall became weaker. Suddenly, it completely disappeared — probably removed by the earth soldiers in the back.

The wind soldiers easily fell to the ground without any problem because of their magic — they created small gusts under their feet that helped them float and fall safely.

On the other hand, Jaune and Nysira fell hard to the ground. Luckily for them, it wasn't very high — just about 9 feet, but the impact was brutal because it happened so suddenly.

"We cannot fall here, Jaune!" shouted Nysira, getting up from the ground, her whole body bleeding from the many spells she had used.

Jaune fell face-first. Luckily, the only scratches were from using his soul; for the most part, he just had dirt on his face and mouth. He spat some of it out, then got up, grabbing Nysira's hand as she reached toward him. With a strong pull, Nysira lifted him onto her shoulder, and she began to rush once again.

The soldiers, surprised to see the two humans still moving so freely, did not have time to react, they were blocked by Jaune's wires, which pressed harder against their bodies.

"ARGHHH!!!" shouted Jaune as he smashed their bodies with his wires, cutting them in half. Nysira kept running around them, but suddenly multiple spikes erupted from the ground. One of the spikes was nearly touching her eye, she tried to run away, but it was too late.

As she ran, she let out a strong cry, her hand pressed over her left eye, which was bleeding. When she removed her hand, she realized her eye was completely destroyed, blood dripping from her face as she felt unbearable pain.

"AHHHH!!" shouted Nysira as she realized what had just happened. She had completely lost her eye. She could now see only with one, and she fell to her knees, blood pooling on the ground.

Jaune lost his balance and fell off to the ground.

"Nysira, attention!!" shouted Jaune as the soldiers created multiple spikes to hit her, completely undefended.

"I won't let you do that!!!" shouted Jaune as he created a wall to cover them. The wall was not very resistant, especially because now that Nysira had stopped due to the pain, she had lost a lot of kinetic energy.

"Ahhh… ahhhh!!" yelled Nysira as she didn't know what to do anymore. She had completely lost one eye, and it was bleeding so much. She was in immense pain and had no idea what to do.

"J-Jaune…" said Nysira, turning toward Jaune with tears coming down from her remaining eye, half her face completely covered in blood.
