It was only then that Todo's interest was attracted: "Speaking of Naoya...where is he? Should he also be present here?"
Todo's question was legit, as the second-year student Naoya should also be here along with other second-years. But seeing that he was not here, Mai looked at her twin sister with an interrogative look, to which Maki just shrugged, seeming to say she had no idea.
"I was really looking forward. The previous year, he didn't even participate, but I'm hoping I can beat him up for that. Todo murmur, it was true that he was looking forward meeting the infamous 'Zombie Maker.' While he knows that he is Mai's brother or cousin or 'nothing related,' as Mai likes to call her relationship with Naoya, Todo never officially meets him.
Since they are from two different schools, it wasn't weird, but Todo has a very important question he needs to ask Naoya, but that opportunity is getting pushed away.
"Is he not participating this year also?" Momo asked.
"Of course," Gojo replied as a matter of fact. Hearing Gojo, Yuji and Nobara looked at each other in confusion as to why Naoya isn't participating when other second-years are and why nobody is complaining about Naoya's lack of participation.
"Why is he not participating?" Nobara asked to sustain her curiosity.
"Nepotism," Kamo said in a flat voice.
"Nepotism? How so?" Nobara asked as she heard that inside Jujutsu High there was not preferential treatment, like every student works under the same banner and everyone gets the same material for study. This all came to practice because of Satoru Gojo.
But now she was hearing that there was an exception.
"Well, why don't you ask Maki or Mai? They know the dynamic around him more than I do," Kamo said as he quickly shifted the explanation to the twin, not because he was too lazy.
Maki, as if he had gotten the honor, just stepped forward. "It's because that bastard is favored by this idiot," she said as she pointed to Gojo, who just goofily smiled.
"Oh come on, I am just trying to give you all a fair chance to win the event. If he participates, then Tokyo High will win every single time, overwhelmingly too."
"Aren't you underestimating us too much?" Todo said, but Mai remained silent, as she knew what Gojo said was the truth; after all, she is one of the handful of people who know Naoya's full technique. So there's not a whit of a lie in what Gojo said, even though it may sound like underestimating them.
Gojo once again gives a goofy grin at what Todo asked. "In a one-on-one match of techniques, I would lose against him." That's all Gojo needed to say to shut all the students down.
Who was Satoru Gojo? He is the face of Jujutsu society; he was the reason why the world started to shift and started making more powerful curses to reach equilibrium, and he is also the undisputed strongest in the current era, so for him to say he will lose against Naoya, what can anyone do except remain silent? Like, what could even overpower limitless?
"So he really was a big shot?" Yuji said, then looked at Megumi, "Why didn't you say so?"
Megumi looked back blankly. "I assumed you already knew."
"I called him Potato Head," Nobara groaned, grabbing Megumi by the shoulders and shaking him. "Why didn't you warn me?!"
"That was just you being rude," Megumi replied without changing expression. "Nobody introduces themselves by insulting their senior."
Yuji nodded in complete agreement. "Yeah... that one was entirely on you."
"What side are you on?!" Nobara shouted before locking Yuji into a headlock and vigorously shaking him.
Ignoring them, Gojo then looked at the Kyoto student. "Either way he did tell me he would be here, but it seems like something urgent must have come for him to ditch his plan."
At that moment, Mai looked down at her phone as it vibrated. After reading the message, she slowly lowered it again.
"I just got a text from Manami," she said. "She said Naoya left yesterday with Mei Mei, and neither of them has come home yet."
