"I needed her, Dad," Keith repeated firmly, his voice low but unwavering as he stared at the untouched food in front of him. There was something unusually serious in his expression now, something darker than simple frustration, and Matthew immediately noticed it. The older man slowly placed his wine glass down before leaning back against his chair, studying his son carefully as though trying to understand whether Keith was speaking out of anger, obsession, or wounded pride.
"There are countless talented designers in this world," Matthew said casually after a moment while cutting another piece of steak with calm precision. "Why bother dating someone just to use her? Couldn't you hire another designer?"
Keith immediately shook his head. "You don't understand." His tone sharpened slightly as irritation returned to his face. "Sarah is different."
