Sonya came to see me after all was said and done. Her eyes swept across my new living conditions. Cheese pretended to be asleep, but by the way he flinched at her every step, I knew my presence—and hers—uneased him.
Especially after what she had done to him.
"Quite the upgrade for a dead girl walking," she muttered.
I saw the flash of envy, though I knew her quarters were nicer. She had always had that issue since we were kids. Always craving everything. Always wanting what wasn't hers.
She faced me then, where I sat on the bed. "And you accepted it like you deserved it?" she asked.
It was not like I could answer, so I gave no reaction.
As usual, her eye twitched. "You should have been in a cell in the first place, and now you get a palace?" Her gaze narrowed.
Again, I offered no discernable insight as to what I was feeling.
She stepped towards me. "Did you think it would work on them? Seducing them?"
I simply blinked.
