After my training with Cyrus just a few minutes ago, I knew something had gone awry—more so than usual. I could not help but fear it was the direct result of my confrontation with Zayne.
So when I was summoned, I wasn't surprised, even if my pulse skittered with every step.
"You lost your chance for some truth," Sylpha's voice threaded through my thoughts, lacking inflection. "You told him."
I gritted my teeth against the wave of despair. I had given him a chance to hear the truth despite the machinations of the goddess, forfeiting the very answers I sought—only for him to shrug me off like an insect. He did not believe me.
The room was wrought with a tension tight enough to snap a bowstring. They were all present and seated. Even Sonya. I straightened my spine, made my way closer, and took a seat. The room felt too grand, dripping with an eeriness that made the hairs on my arms stand.
