Chapter 148 - Chapter 148: Whis: Mr. Goku Can Learn Ultra Instinct

The door opened.

Presented before Frieza was a small room containing a single small bed, beside which were piled some flour-like foodstuffs that emitted a strange odor.

Frieza closed the door behind him with a dull thud and walked back outside.

Once outside, Frieza's eyes widened in shock, his mouth hanging open wide enough to fit an egg.

Before him was an infinite expanse of white space, with no visible boundaries.

Frieza had never imagined that there would be such a vast world hidden within.

Subsequently, Frieza returned to the entrance and saw a clock hanging above it, its hands turning slowly.

According to the prompt provided by the clock, one year inside this place was equivalent to only one day passing outside.

Frieza's heart instantly surged with excitement. He was beyond thrilled, his body beginning to tremble slightly.

In other words, I can train in here for five years?

Five years!

Just wait until I, Frieza, get out of here!

I'll see how I grind you all into the dirt then!

Frieza was truly ecstatic, his fists clenched tight and his eyes flashing with ambitious light.

...

Earth, Mount Paozu.

Son Goku's home.

After the matter with Majin Buu concluded, Son Goku and the others had each returned to their respective homes to enjoy a rare period of tranquility.

Son Gohan had also brought Videl home. The family sat around the dining table, eating together in a harmonious atmosphere filled with constant laughter.

In this World Martial Arts Tournament, Son Goten had won the Junior Division championship and received 10 million Zeni in prize money, all of which he handed over to Chi-Chi.

Having received this sum, Chi-Chi was dancing with joy, her eyes crinkling into slits from her smile.

Finally, she didn't have to worry about money anymore.

"Auntie, this is my pocket money. I don't have any use for it right now, so please take it," Videl said, handing a Hoi-Poi Capsule to Chi-Chi with a sweet smile on her face.

Chi-Chi was taken aback as she took the capsule. She felt a surge of emotion, thinking that Gohan had certainly found the right girlfriend.

She hasn't even married into the family yet, and she's already giving her pocket money to me, her future mother-in-law. How sensible.

"Sister Videl, how much pocket money do you have?" Son Goten asked curiously, poking his little head over.

"How much? I suppose I've saved up about a hundred million over the years," Videl replied, scratching her head with a hint of embarrassment after taking a bite of rice. "I don't usually spend much money... so I've just been saving it."

Chi-Chi's jaw practically hit the floor, her eyes bulging. The chopsticks in her hand even fell onto the table.

Son Gohan silently wiped away sweat, his mouth twitching.

Son Goten fell silent, his little mouth slightly agape in disbelief.

Sister Videl, you're way too rich!

Son Goku laughed heartily and scratched his head, thinking Videl was truly an interesting child.

"A hundred million!" Chi-Chi was beyond shocked. She hurriedly tried to return the Hoi-Poi Capsule to Videl, waving her hands. "I can't take this money; it's too much."

"Auntie, please just keep it. Money is of no use to me," Videl shook her head with a firm expression, pushing the capsule back.

"Well... since you put it that way... then I won't be polite!" Chi-Chi nodded and carefully put the capsule away, a happy smile on her face. "I'll save it for you two to use when you get married."

"If I marry Gohan... I feel like it shouldn't be a problem to have my father give us another 10 billion," Videl mused, her tone as casual as if she were talking about the weather.

Chi-Chi's eyes rolled back, and she nearly fainted, steadying her forehead with her hand.

Is your family really that wealthy?

Well, actually, our family used to be very rich too, it's just that later...

"Dad, did you and Uncle Vegeta spar?" Son Gohan's face turned red. Sensing the atmosphere had become a bit awkward, he immediately changed the subject.

Son Goku shook his head and took a mouthful of rice. "Not yet."

"You didn't spar?" Gohan was taken aback, asking with some surprise.

Even Son Goten, who was eating, paused for a moment and looked up at his father, his eyes full of anticipation.

Didn't Dad agree to spar with Uncle Vegeta at this Martial Arts Tournament?

Son Goku had no choice but to recount everything that had happened at the Sacred World of the Kai to his two sons. His tone was flat, as if he were telling someone else's story.

Gohan covered his face and shook his head helplessly.

Uncle Vegeta was beaten up by Uncle Broly again?

Could he not be so pathetic?

"Eh? Uncle Spiky-Hair was beaten up by Uncle Green-Hair again?" Videl couldn't help but cry out in alarm, her mouth forming a round 'O' in disbelief.

Son Goku laughed brightly and scratched his head.

Gohan: "..."

Videl, the two of us are truly in sync.

I was just about to say exactly what you said.

"And then, Lord Beerus arrived?" Gohan asked again, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

"Yes, Broly fought him and was completely outmatched," Son Goku nodded and replied. "Then I fought Lord Beerus as well, and I still lost! As expected of Lord Beerus! Lord Supreme Kai was right; he really is strong!"

"Did Dad transform into Super Saiyan 6 to fight him?" Gohan asked with some surprise, his eyes flashing with admiration.

"Yes," Son Goku did not deny it.

"That's incredible. Even Super Saiyan 6 couldn't beat Lord Beerus?" Gohan sighed with emotion, shaking his head.

"But Lord Beerus said that my current strength might have already surpassed the Gods of Destruction of other universes," Son Goku said with a confident smile.

"Gods of Destruction of other universes?" Gohan raised an eyebrow. "Which universes' Gods of Destruction has Dad surpassed?"

"Except for the God of the Fourth Universe and our own Lord Beerus of the Seventh Universe, I've basically surpassed all the other Gods of Destruction," Son Goku grinned and added, "Well, that's what Lord Beerus said. I haven't met the Gods of Destruction from the other universes."

"Is that so? Dad, you're truly amazing!" Gohan was beyond excited, his eyes sparkling.

"But Gohan, if you're willing to train hard, once you achieve a new breakthrough, I'm sure you'll definitely surpass me!" Son Goku's expression grew a bit more serious as he spoke earnestly to Gohan, patting him on the shoulder.

"I'll do my best, Dad!" Gohan nodded vigorously, his gaze firm.

"Hahaha, the most talented Saiyan isn't Broly, but Gohan," Son Goku said with a tone of certainty, patting Gohan's shoulder again.

"That... not really... Uncle Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan, after all. There's still a certain gap between him and me," Gohan said with a blush, scratching his head in embarrassment, his cheeks burning.

"Dad, Brother, I want to become stronger too!" Son Goten said with a look of anticipation, his youthful face full of determination as he clenched his little fists.

"As long as Goten can transform into Super Saiyan 5, he can follow Dad's transformation to become Super Saiyan 6," Gohan said with a smile, patting Goten's head.

"Gohan is right," Son Goku nodded, looking at Goten encouragingly.

Goten clenched his fists, his little face full of resolve, indicating that he would definitely work hard.

Whis: "..."

Whis had already sent Vegeta home and subsequently arrived outside Son Goku's house. After eavesdropping for a while, a look of surprise appeared on his face.

To this, Whis sighed with deep emotion.

What kind of family is this?

The father and his two sons all seem incredibly strong.

Even Son Goku's youngest son, Goten, already has strength not far off from Vegeta's.

The most impressive one has to be his eldest son, Gohan; the energy within his body is simply terrifying and unfathomable.

He might have already surpassed Broly.

If Mr. Goku and his son Gohan were to use a fusion technique, Lord Beerus would likely be even more pathetic, losing so badly that not even a trace of him would remain.

Knock! Knock!

Whis stepped forward and knocked on the door, the sound crisp and loud.

Son Goku and the others were all taken aback. They stopped what they were doing and looked at each other.

"Someone's here; I'll go open the door," Son Goten hurriedly put down his bowl and chopsticks, jumped off his chair, and trotted to the door, opening it with excitement.

The door opened.

Whis stood outside with a gentle smile and gave a greeting. "Hello."

Son Goku turned his head toward the doorway and recognized Whis at once. He hurriedly stood up and waved in greeting, a warm smile on his face.

"You're Mr. Whis, who stays beside Lord Beerus, right?" Son Goku said with a smile, his tone carrying a hint of respect.

"It is I," Whis nodded. Then, he saw the sumptuous feast on the Goku family's dining table—fish, meat, and various vegetables. He couldn't help but sniff the air, a hint of anticipation flashing in his eyes.

The food at their house looks quite delicious.

"Hello, you're Goku's friend, right? Would you like to sit down and have a bite with us? We've just started," Chi-Chi greeted him politely with a kind smile, having already noticed that Whis seemed very eager to eat.

"Then I shall accept your kind offer," Whis replied, having been dying to taste the food here. He agreed immediately.

Under Chi-Chi's arrangement, Whis sat at the dining table and tasted the most delicious food he had ever had. Every dish left him full of praise.

"Oh my, oh my... I never expected the dishes made by Ms. Chi-Chi to be so fragrant. This is the first time I've ever eaten something this delicious." Whis smacked his lips constantly, eating happily. His eyebrows even began to dance—curling into crescents one moment and wiggling like little snakes the next.

"How do you make your eyebrows dance like that?" Son Goku scratched his head, looking at Whis with wide, curious eyes.

"Like this," Whis smiled, letting his eyebrows perform another nimble dance as if they had a life of their own.

Son Goku tried to mimic Whis, winking and grimacing, furrowing his brows with effort and then trying to jerk them upward, but he couldn't get the eyebrow dance right. Instead, he just looked somewhat comical.

"It's no use; I can't learn it at all," Son Goku said with a hint of frustration, clutching his hair.

"Hee hee hee, Mr. Goku truly is an interesting person," Whis remarked softly, his eyes full of mirth.

"Mr. Whis, did you come to see me for something specific?" Son Goku asked, finally remembering the business at hand and stopping his attempts to wiggle his eyebrows.

Whis recounted everything regarding the upcoming tournament with Universe 6 to Son Goku, his tone calm and his explanation clear.

"A tournament with Universe 6?" Son Goku's eyes lit up, and he immediately looked expectant, a broad smile of excitement spreading across his face as he readily agreed. "Alright, I'm in."

"Currently, Lord Beerus has two fighters on his side, so Mr. Son Goku, you'll need to find two more. That makes a total of five participants for the tournament," Whis explained.

"Gohan, do you want to go?" Son Goku turned to ask Son Gohan.

"Sure, Dad, I'll go check it out!" Son Gohan nodded in agreement, his face showing a look of anticipation.

"Dad, I want to participate in the tournament too!" Son Goten raised his hand, his little face full of hope.

"Great, that makes exactly five people." Son Goku didn't object, smiling as he patted Son Goten's head.

Whis: "..."

They decided on the roster just like that?

Don't they need to think about it at all?

However, given the strength of this father and his two sons, they could likely win the tournament with ease.

Whis sighed inwardly with emotion, becoming even more expectant of the tournament's outcome.

"Oh my... Lord Beerus's intention was that it would be best to bring Mr. Broly along," Whis said with a smile. He gave his staff a gentle shake, and the crystal ball at the top flickered with a soft light.

"Broly? Sure, no problem." Son Goku agreed readily, then scratched his head with a hint of difficulty on his face. "But Broly doesn't want to leave the Sacred World of the Kai. I'm not sure if I can persuade him."

"If all else fails, just knock him out and bring him over," Whis suggested. His tone was casual, as if he were talking about a trivial matter.

"That..." Son Goku's mouth twitched slightly. Imagining Broly being knocked out, he was momentarily speechless, his face full of conflict.

Whis continued to savor the delicious food for a while longer, chewing each bite carefully with a look of pure enjoyment. Afterward, he gave Son Goku a deep look, his gaze carrying a hint of inquiry.

Son Goku was slightly taken aback. Feeling that Whis's gaze was a bit strange, he couldn't help but touch his face and ask in confusion, "Mr. Whis, is there something on my face?"

"Mr. Goku, is Super Saiyan 6 already your strongest form?" Whis didn't answer Son Goku's question directly, instead asking with a smile and a hint of curiosity in his tone.

"Yeah," Son Goku nodded in admission.

"Is there no way to transform into Super Saiyan Blue on top of Super Saiyan 5?" Whis asked again, his gaze scanning back and forth over Son Goku.

"I've tried, but it's completely impossible." Son Goku shook his head, resting his chin in thought as his fingers unconsciously tapped the table. "I don't know why it's like this. In short, there's no way to turn my hair blue. Every time I try, I feel like the energy is stuck there, unable to break through."

"Super Saiyan Blue seems to be the change obtained by becoming a Super Saiyan on the basis of a Super Saiyan God," Whis analyzed, his tone calm and professional. "Currently, Mr. Goku has already reached Super Saiyan 5, so there's no way to become a Super Saiyan on top of Super Saiyan 5. That's likely why you can't turn blue."

"Eh? When you put it that way, it seems to make a lot of sense." Son Goku nodded thoughtfully, his eyes lighting up. He felt that Whis was absolutely right, and the problem he hadn't been able to figure out suddenly became clear.

"Wait a minute, Mr. Whis." Son Gohan didn't quite understand. He furrowed his brow and asked curiously, "Uncle Vegeta is also a Super Saiyan God, and logically he's also become a Super Saiyan. Why can he still stack them?"

"That's not quite it," Whis smiled and explained patiently. "Mr. Vegeta transformed directly into a Super Saiyan God, so he can become a Super Saiyan on top of that—which is Super Saiyan Blue. But Mr. Goku is different. Mr. Goku is already in a Super Saiyan form, and it's Super Saiyan 5 at that... So the question is, if Mr. Goku doesn't transform into a Super Saiyan God, can he become a Super Saiyan again?"

Son Goku shook his head, stating without hesitation that he couldn't.

"Of course not. I'm already a Super Saiyan 5; I can't exactly turn back into a Super Saiyan 1, can I?" Son Goku nodded thoughtfully.

"So that's the logic," Whis smiled and gave the answer, his eyes sparkling with the light of wisdom.

"In other words, has my current form already reached its limit?" Son Goku felt a bit of a headache coming on. He clutched his hair and mused, "It seems that if I want to continue improving in the future, I can only improve on my base form?"

"Oh my, oh my... Mr. Goku still wants to continue becoming stronger," Whis asked with a smile and a hint of admiration in his tone.

"Yeah, I still want to try and defeat Lord Beerus," Son Goku grinned, revealing his pearly white teeth. He looked expectant, his eyes flashing with a burning fighting spirit.

"Actually, if Mr. Goku truly wants to continue becoming stronger, there is a rather special skill that would be quite suitable for you," Whis said with a mysterious smile, deliberately keeping him in suspense as a hint of cunning flashed in his eyes.

"A special skill? What special skill?" Son Goku's interest was instantly piqued. He involuntarily leaned forward, his eyes wide with curiosity.

"Ultra Instinct," Whis slowly uttered those two words, his tone solemn and mysterious.

"What's that?" Son Goku was taken aback. He had never heard the name before, and his face was full of confusion.

"If Mr. Goku can master this skill flexibly, you should be able to transform and use it on top of Super Saiyan 5," Whis gave the answer with a tone of certainty.

"Is that really possible? That's great!" Son Goku was beyond excited, his face beaming with a broad smile.

"Mr. Whis, what is Ultra Instinct?" Son Gohan also asked curiously, his eyes flashing with a desire for knowledge.

"Ultra Instinct and the Destruction of the Gods of Destruction are both referred to as the Techniques of the Gods. Unlike previous combat methods that rely on sensing Ki, it relies on the conditioned reflexes of every part of the body. It doesn't require the brain to think, maximizing movement speed and reaction time," Whis explained, slowing his pace so they could better understand. "In other words, Ultra Instinct separates the body from the consciousness, allowing each part of the body to perceive surrounding dangers beyond instinct. There's no longer a need for the brain to think before acting, reaching a state of unity between offense and defense that is truly impeccable."

"I don't quite understand it, but it sounds really strong," Son Goku mused, rubbing his chin. He imagined that state in his mind, his eyes flashing with a look of longing.

"Does Mr. Goku want to learn it?" Whis asked with a smile.

"I want to learn! I want to learn!" Son Goku nodded repeatedly like a child eager for knowledge. "I want to learn it right now!"

"I can teach Mr. Goku Ultra Instinct, but the prerequisite is that Ms. Chi-Chi prepares more sumptuous feasts," Whis said with a smile as he looked at Chi-Chi. A hint of anticipation flashed in his eyes as he recalled the delicacies he had just tasted, and he couldn't help but swallow hard.

Son Goku also immediately focused his gaze on Chi-Chi, his eyes full of pleading.

"No problem, leave it to me! Mr. Whis, just say what you want to eat—whether it flies in the sky, runs on the ground, or swims in the water. As long as you can name it, I'll make it for you!" Chi-Chi agreed readily, patting her chest.

"Then it's a deal," Whis nodded with satisfaction, a happy smile on his face.

"When do we start?" Son Goku asked excitedly, rubbing his hands together in eagerness.

"Before that, I'll take Mr. Goku to meet someone. Perhaps with his assistance, your strength will reach an even higher level, laying a solid foundation for mastering Ultra Instinct," Whis said with a smile and a hint of mystery in his eyes.

"Who is it?" Son Goku was taken aback, becoming even more curious.

Who could it be that could help with mastering Ultra Instinct?

"A Galactic Patrolman," Whis said with a smile, his tone flat as if he were just mentioning an ordinary profession.

"Galactic Patrolman? Never heard of them." Son Goku looked bewildered, scratching his head.

In his previous life, Son Goku had never met Jaco the Galactic Patrolman.

Because Son Goku followed the GT route.

In GT, the mysterious organization known as the Galactic Patrol never made an appearance.

And in this life, Jaco had likewise never appeared.

"Is he very strong?" Son Goten asked curiously, his little face full of anticipation.

"You'll know once you get there," Whis smiled mysteriously, keeping them in suspense without saying more.

"Are we leaving now?" Son Goku was practically itching to go.

"We'll leave after we finish eating," Whis didn't object.

The meal lasted for a full six hours before Whis finally stretched with lingering satisfaction, indicating he had eaten enough.

Chi-Chi silently wiped away sweat.

He can really eat!

Even more than our Goku!

Luckily we have Videl's hundred million; otherwise, eating like this would eventually bankrupt us.

I hope Goku can fulfill his wish soon.

"We can leave now!" Whis called out to Son Goku.

Son Goku looked expectant.

"Is Mr. Whis coming back?" Son Gohan asked.

"I'll be back. I still need to come back and pick up Mr. Vegeta," Whis nodded slightly.

"Alright then. Goten and I won't go for now; let Dad go by himself!" Son Gohan proposed, waving a fist at his father. "Good luck, Dad! Master Ultra Instinct as soon as possible!"
