The stream became the first place Nyssa learned how to exist again. The place she became very comfortable with.
At first, she moved unsure, like someone walking through a den of lions. She watched more than she spoke, listened more than she understood, and let the rhythm of the village settle into her bones little by little.
But the only friend she had recently made, Kai, did not let her stay distant for long.
He was always there when she went to stream and he kept her company. Sometimes, making her laugh. It pleased him, knowing he had that effect on her.
Sometimes, he would splash water on her purposely making her wet.
"KAI!" She would shriek and run away, trying to escape but he would always catch her.
"Now that's more like it," he would grin, proud to make her more active.
And people began to notice, that the Chief's grandson, Kai, was gaining interest on Mea the strange girl.
