Chapter 86:
Three days later Some small town in America
Sunlight lazily poured over Yang Jian as he lay on a lounge chair in the front yard.
His eyes were slightly narrowed behind his sunglasses, enjoying a warm sunbath.
His skin glowed with a faint golden sheen under the sunlight.
Every ray of sunlight was precisely absorbed and converted by his cells, becoming an endless source of energy within his body.
The town was eerily quiet.
There were almost no pedestrians on the streets. The few people who hurried by kept their heads down and walked quickly, as if avoiding something.
A breeze blew past, lifting a few fallen leaves and making a soft rustling sound.
Yang Jian reached for the juice on the small table beside him and took a slow sip.
The cool orange juice slid down his throat, carrying a slight sweet-and-sour taste.
He let out a contented sigh, thinking that this kind of leisurely life wasn't bad at all.
After leaving Elizabeth's house, he had wandered aimlessly around the city and eventually settled in this small town on a whim.
He bought this small house with a garden, tidied it up simply, and began this idle lifestyle.
Sunbathing, drinking juice, and occasionally using super vision to scan the surroundings.
He was used to the life of a superhero. Coming to this world for a vacation, and sending a few evil spirits to meet Satan when he felt like it, seemed pretty good.
In the past two days, he had already figured out most of this world's secrets.
Just as Sadako had said, this world was filled with all kinds of ghosts and supernatural phenomena.
At the same time, there were exorcists, demon hunters, and similar existences who specialized in dealing with them.
And the small town he was currently in was clearly not peaceful either.
Yang Jian's super hearing picked up the whispered conversations of nearby residents.
"Another person has gone missing."
"I heard Old John's dog was torn apart by something last night."
"Should we move away? This place is getting more and more eerie."
A playful smile appeared on his lips.
The town's abnormalities meant nothing to him.
Those so-called horror legends were nothing more than boring little tricks in his eyes.
Whether it was a vengeful spirit wandering in an abandoned hospital or a man-eating monster lurking in the forest, he could crush them with a casual pinch if he wanted.
But for now, he planned to sunbathe, unless an evil spirit deliberately showed up.
"Anyway, I'm idle," Yang Jian lazily stretched.
"When I get bored one day, I'll go clean up a few ghosts for fun."
He lay back down on the lounge chair, closed his eyes, and continued enjoying the rare moment of peace.
However, at that moment—
Bang!
A loud crash came from afar, followed by the sound of shattering glass.
Yang Jian's ears twitched slightly. Super hearing instantly locked onto the source.
It was a house on the edge of the town. Someone seemed to be breaking in.
Immediately after, a weak cry for help rang out: "Help… help! Something's come in! Someone save me!"
Yang Jian slowly opened his eyes. A trace of interest flashed in his gaze behind the sunglasses.
"Alright, looks like I don't have to wait to get bored."
He stood up, casually placed the juice cup on the table, and showed a playful smile.
"Perfect time to stretch my muscles."
Yang Jian's figure instantly disappeared from the spot, leaving only the slightly swaying lounge chair and the half-full glass of juice on the table.
The next second, he was already standing in front of the house from which the cry for help had come.
The wooden front door had been smashed to pieces by some immense force. Several deep claw marks remained on the doorframe.
Those were not marks a human could leave.
Inside the house came the sound of rapid panting, accompanied by the dripping of some viscous liquid.
Drip! Drip!
Yang Jian walked in unhurriedly. His shoes made soft creaking sounds as they stepped on the broken wooden boards.
His super vision pierced through the darkness, clearly showing him the scene in the living room.
A middle-aged man was slumped beside the sofa, chest heaving violently, his face deathly pale.
Right in front of him, a twisted black shadow was slowly wriggling, like a monster made of countless tentacles.
At the end of each tentacle was a mouth full of sharp teeth, dripping with foul-smelling mucus.
When the man saw Yang Jian, a glimmer of hope flashed in his despairing eyes.
"Save… save me!"
The monster seemed to sense the intruder. All its tentacles suddenly turned toward Yang Jian. Those mouths full of sharp teeth opened at the same time, emitting a piercing screech.
Yang Jian raised an eyebrow: "Ugly as hell."
Before the words finished, a wisp of golden flame coalesced in his palm.
The monster lunged in fury. All its tentacles shot toward Yang Jian like arrows.
Boom!
Golden light flashed. The entire house shook violently.
When the light faded, the monster had vanished without a trace — not even a drop of mucus remained.
Only a few scorch marks on the wall proved it had ever existed.
The man stared blankly at the scene, his lips trembling, unable to speak.
Yang Jian walked up to him and checked his injuries with super vision.
"Superficial wounds. You won't die."
"Th-thank you!"
The man finally found his voice. "Are you… an exorcist?"
"Just passing by."
Yang Jian stood up, his gaze sweeping outside the house.
His super vision caught similar dark energies beginning to appear all over the town, as if awakened by some force.
These things were coming out at this exact moment. It seemed this small town was hiding something.
The man struggled to his feet: "Sir, please help us! More than a dozen people have gone missing in town recently. The police can't find any clues."
Yang Jian didn't answer. Instead, he suddenly looked up at the ceiling.
Bang!
The second-floor window suddenly shattered. A black shadow shot out like lightning and disappeared into the night.
It was so fast it seemed afraid that the next thing to disappear would be itself.
"Runs pretty fast."
He turned to the man and said: "Stay here and don't move."
With that, his figure disappeared again, leaving only a faint breeze.
The man collapsed to the floor, murmuring: "Oh God!"
Yang Jian, in a playful mood, instantly chased the black shadow to an abandoned church on the outskirts of the town.
The stained-glass windows glowed eerily in the moonlight. The cross on the church steeple had long since rusted and tilted.
Hiding in a place like this? Really uncreative.
Super vision pierced through the church and saw something unexpected.
He had originally followed the dark energy, but unexpectedly stumbled upon an exorcism ritual.
In the center of the church, a woman with long black hair was locked in combat with a twisted evil spirit.
She moved with agile grace, her black leather outfit hugging her body. With a sharp spinning kick from her long legs, she sent the snarling evil spirit flying!
The evil spirit slammed into the stained-glass window, letting out a piercing screech.
He didn't quite understand why these people all liked leather outfits.
Yang Jian raised an eyebrow and simply sat down on the edge of the arch, resting his cheek on one hand as he watched.
The woman hadn't noticed the spectator.
She quickly pulled a silver necklace from around her neck. The cross gleamed coldly in the moonlight.
Her red lips parted, and a string of ancient incantations flowed out. Her voice was cool yet carried an irresistible power.
"Jili gulu! Jili gulu!"
As the incantation was chanted, the cross suddenly erupted with dazzling blue light.
The light wrapped around the evil spirit like a living thing, firmly binding it.
The evil spirit struggled madly. Its black-mist body twisted and deformed continuously, but it couldn't break free from the holy restraint.
"Return to nothingness," the woman said coldly. She pushed the cross forward sharply.
The blue light surged. The evil spirit let out one final wail in the blinding glow and turned into countless light particles that dissipated into the air.
The exorcism ritual was clean and efficient.
Yang Jian thought that perhaps the evil spirit couldn't help complaining before it died.
Damn it! Couldn't you give me a heads-up next time? I could have changed into a cool evil spirit outfit so I wouldn't lose so pathetically!
The entire church returned to silence. Only a few feathers shaken loose drifted down slowly.
The woman panted lightly as she put away the necklace. Her long black hair swayed slightly with her movements.
At that moment, a sudden round of applause came from above.
"Beautiful exorcism ritual."
Yang Jian's figure suddenly appeared one meter in front of her.
The woman instantly tensed. Her right hand was already on the silver short sword at her waist.
Only now did Yang Jian notice her appearance. He had been focused on the fight earlier.
The woman had a delicate oval face with a pair of cat-like amber eyes.
A small tear mole at the corner of her right eye added a touch of charm to her cold, elegant temperament.
