"I don't know what my life will look like after these children are born, Wei Xiang," she confessed in a quiet, fragile voice. "I don't know where I will go, or what kind of mother I will be."
"I know," he said softly.
"I don't want to make promises to you right now that I might not be able to keep later," she continued, looking back up into his gentle eyes. "I don't ever want to disappoint you."
"I know that too," he reassured her gently.
Lin Wan looked at him, genuine confusion in her eyes.
"Then why are you still standing here waiting for me? Why aren't you out living your own free life?"
Wei Xiang took one careful step closer, his tall frame looming over her with protective warmth.
"Because staying right here and waiting for you is entirely my own choice, Lin Wan. No one is making me do it."
Lin Wan stared into his dark, honest eyes, feeling a wave of deep, overwhelming gratitude wash over her tired mind.
"I've already made one promise to you," she whispered softly.
