The royal court froze the moment Captain Kebel stepped through the giant doors. Every noble who had been whispering moments ago fell silent. The king almost jumped out of his throne, and even the ever-problematic Marcus was suddenly at a loss for words. The entire speech of accusations and insults he had prepared for Rain suddenly vanished. His mind went blank.
But that wasn't the most important thing.
Kebel walked in calm and confident, as always. It wasn't the first time he was arriving after the king, so no one took note of that. But the elders and nobles noticed the fear on the king's face. His sons noticed his clenched fist, his knuckles almost turning white. And his concubines... they noticed the slight vein on his forehead. The man seemed to have lost weight in seconds.
