The room was silent.
No footsteps in the hall. No voices from downstairs. Even the air conditioner seemed to hum from very far away.
The silence should have made the room feel empty, but it did the opposite. It pressed close, thick and sweet in a way that felt almost physical, like melted chocolate coating the air. Every breath carried warmth. Every small movement became too clear.
Elias's eyes were red.
The moisture gathered there until his lashes could no longer hold it back. At last, it spilled over, rolling down his face in two clear tracks.
Maybe it was because being treated like this was too humiliating.
Maybe it was because being forced into such closeness made shame rise so hard he almost could not stand.
Either way, the arrogance he had carried earlier was gone. The proud young master who had threatened to call the police, throw her into prison, and drive her out of Westbridge had vanished inside Giselle Frost's arms.
