Emmett pressed start on the character select screen.
"Alright brother… pick your character."
Silas looked at the roster and scrolled through slowly.
He landed on Scorpion and locked in.
Emmett looked over and scoffed.
"Scorpion? Really?"
Silas raised an eyebrow.
"What's wrong with Scorpion?"
Emmett shook his head and locked in Sub-Zero.
"Nothing… just that you're going to lose with him."
Silas looked back at the screen.
"We'll see."
Alice beside him rested her chin on her hand and watched with interest.
The match started.
Emmett was good. He wasn't just all talk, he clearly knew what he was doing.
And the first match was closer than Silas expected.
But Silas still took it.
Emmett cracked his knuckles.
"Rematch."
"Obviously."
They kept playing. And Silas kept winning.
After a while the score was sitting at 10-3 for Silas and Emmett's patience was running out.
"The controller is sticking." Emmett said after losing another round.
Silas glanced over at him.
"It's your controller."
Emmett looked at it and put it down, then picked it back up.
"My thumb was cramping."
"You don't cramp."
Emmett was quiet for a moment.
"I… was going easy on you."
Silas turned his head slowly and looked at him.
Emmett didn't look back.
Alice covered her mouth.
Silas turned back to the screen without saying anything, clearly showing disdain.
Emmett could feel it.
"Okay fine. You're decent." Emmett said, holding up a hand.
"Thank you Emmett." Silas said.
"That really means a lot." He continued sarcastically.
Emmett stared at him, clearly feeling the sarcasm.
It was so annoying… he didn't like sarcasm.
Alice laughed.
They played a few more rounds but the score didn't change much. Emmett managed to claw back one more win and celebrated it like he had won some tournament.
"There it is! Did you see that? Did you see that combo?"
Silas watched the replay on screen.
"Yeah, very good Emmett."
"Thank you. Thank you." Emmett leaned back and nodded to himself.
Silas looked over at Alice and she looked back at him.
They didn't say anything. They didn't need to, the look in each other's eyes said enough.
Hehe.
After a while Alice shifted and tugged at Silas's arm a little coquettishly.
"Can we watch the second Harry Potter movie now?" She asked.
Silas set down his controller.
"Harry Potter." Emmett looked over and asked in confusion.
Silas nodded.
Emmett felt something bad…
"What? We're done already?" He asked, clearly he wanted to keep playing, not watch some movie.
"The score is 10-4." Silas said.
Emmett opened his mouth.
Then closed it.
"Tsk… fine."
They moved to the living room and Alice set up the movie while Silas sank into the couch.
Emmett dropped down beside him a moment later, still carrying a little residual dissatisfaction from the games.
"Is this the one with the giant spiders?" Emmett asked.
"Yeah." Silas said.
Emmett nodded, clearly he was familiar with the movie.
Rosalie came in quietly and sat down beside Emmett. She had heard about movie night.
The movie started.
Alice was already leaning forward slightly, ready to guess what was going to happen.
"Okay." She said, mostly to herself. "Let's see who the bad guy is this time."
Silas glanced over at her.
"You don't know?"
Alice shook her head with full confidence.
"No. But I'll figure it out."
Silas nodded along. Sure you will.
A little while into the movie and the Chamber of Secrets had been opened and the school was in a panic.
Alice pointed at the screen.
"It's Draco. Look at him, he's so suspicious."
Silas raised an eyebrow.
"You think?"
"Obviously." Alice said with full certainty.
"He knew about the Chamber before anyone else, he's clearly involved."
Silas nodded along.
"Yeah… you're probably right."
Emmett glanced over at Silas with a raised eyebrow.
As the movie went on and more students got petrified, Alice kept her eyes narrowed at the screen, very invested.
"See? He's not even scared." She said when Draco appeared on screen again.
"Everyone else is panicking and he's just walking around calmly."
"Suspicious." Silas agreed.
"Very suspicious." Alice confirmed.
The movie kept going.
When Tom Riddle's diary appeared Alice tilted her head.
"What is that… why would a diary be important?"
"Who knows." Silas said playing dumb.
Alice squinted at it.
"I don't trust it."
"Hmm. Me neither." Silas said.
Then a little while later she had completely forgotten about the diary and was back to building her case against Draco.
"Okay so he has a motive and he keeps showing up right after something happens." Alice recounted.
"That is… true." Silas said while rubbing his chin.
She looked over at him.
"You're just agreeing with everything I say, but in a different way."
"I think you're quite perceptive."
Alice studied him for a second then said.
"Last time you acted like a pureblood… this time you're acting like Dumbledore."
"Stop talking like you're mysterious!" She complained.
Silas was taken aback.
"But aren't I mysterious?"
Alice shook her head and turned back to the screen.
When the basilisk finally appeared Alice straightened up.
"What is that!?"
"A snake." Silas said.
"I can see it's a snake, why is it so big, why is it in the school, and where did it come from!?"
Silas shrugged.
Alice watched with wide eyes as the pieces started to fall into place on screen. When Tom Riddle revealed himself her mouth opened slightly.
"Was it Voldemort the whole time? And he was controlling Ginny? But she's so cute."
"Technically it was a memory of him." Silas offered.
Alice looked at him.
"That's just worse!"
When Harry drove the basilisk fang into the diary Alice grabbed Silas's arm.
"Kill him! Kill him!"
Silas smiled.
When it was over and Harry was safe Alice slowly leaned back and exhaled.
"Okay." She said after a moment. "I might have been wrong about Draco."
Silas nodded solemnly.
"You were wrong again."
"But he was still suspicious." She added quickly.
"Very suspicious." Silas agreed.
Alice pointed at the screen.
"And the diary thing I called. I said I didn't trust it."
"You did say that."
"So I wasn't completely wrong."
"No." Silas said.
"You were practically right."
Alice seemed satisfied with that and leaned back into him.
"Next movie I won't be tricked, I will call it immediately."
Silas nodded along. He didn't believe it for a second.
Emmett, who had been quiet for a while, looked at the screen as the credits rolled.
"The spider scene was cool." He said.
Rosalie looked at him.
"You had your eyes closed."
Emmett glanced over then stood up and walked out of the room without responding.
Alice laughed quietly.
Just then Esme appeared in the doorway and looked around the room with a gentle smile.
"Alright… I think it's time to wrap up for the night… it's getting quite late" She said pleasantly.
"Of course." Silas said and stood up.
He stretched his arms above his head in a stretch, then glanced at his phone.
It was later than he thought.
Alice stood with him and they walked to the entrance together. He sat down and put on his shoes.
Alice watched him with a reluctant smile. Clearly she wanted him to stay… but Esme had spoken.
"Same time next week?" She inquired, she wanted this to be a tradition.
Silas looked up at her with a smile.
"Of course."
She smiled and leaned down and gave him a kiss.
He stood up and opened the front door.
The night air outside was cool and quiet.
He walked to his car and got in, started the engine and sat there for a second.
It was a good evening, Silas thought. Especially the movie night.
Then he drove off.
...
Enjoy. Mwah~
