Chapter 139 - One Hundred and Thirty Eight:The March of the Devourer

The Sanctuary at the Edge of Dawn had begun preparing for war again.

For the first time in countless ages, the ancient city no longer slept peacefully beneath eternal sunrise.

Golden alarm bells echoed across floating towers.

Ancient barriers awakened.

Crystal bridges lit with defensive runes.

And beyond the outer edges of the sanctuary… darkness advanced.

Luke stood atop one of the highest crystal terraces overlooking the distant horizon.

From here, he could finally see it clearly.

Primordial corruption.

It spread across the void like a living storm, swallowing light itself as it moved closer to the sanctuary. Entire fragments of floating ruins dissolved into black dust whenever the darkness touched them.

And somewhere inside that storm…

Something enormous moved.

Luke's chest tightened.

"That's Vaelthoros…" he whispered.

Beside him, the Spirit Guide remained unusually tense.

Yes.

Even the ancient dragon's voice carried unease now.

Luke swallowed hard.

"It feels wrong."

Because it is, the dragon answered quietly. Primordials do not belong within creation anymore. Their existence rejects natural law itself.

The pendant around Luke's neck glowed faintly as if reacting defensively to the approaching corruption.

Then footsteps approached behind them.

Lucien.

Dark infernal armor now covered him completely, glowing faintly with ancient runes while black flames flickered around his sword. His expression remained calm… but Luke knew him well enough now to recognize the tension hidden beneath it.

"The Sentinels are preparing the inner defenses," Lucien said. "But they don't think the outer barriers will hold long."

Luke looked toward the darkness again.

"Can we fight it?"

Lucien became silent.

Then honestly:

"Not directly."

That answer terrified Luke more than he expected.

Lucien noticed immediately.

He stepped closer and rested a hand firmly on Luke's shoulder.

"Listen to me carefully," he said quietly. "Your job is not to defeat Vaelthoros."

Luke frowned.

"Then what am I supposed to do?"

The Spirit Guide answered this time.

Reach the Heart Chamber.

Luke looked between them uncertainly.

"But what if the Heart rejects me?"

Neither Lucien nor the Spirit Guide answered immediately.

Because they had all considered that possibility already.

Then softly, Lucien spoke.

"It won't."

Luke looked up slowly.

Lucien's expression softened faintly.

"Your mother believed in you enough to leave this path behind."

The pendant pulsed warmly.

"And so do I."

Luke stared at him quietly for several seconds before nodding.

The fear inside him did not disappear completely.

But it became lighter somehow.

Meanwhile, deep within the sanctuary streets, the Dawn Sentinels prepared for battle.

Massive golden barriers rose across the outer districts while ancient weapons dormant for ages awakened beneath the floating city.

Luke watched in awe as enormous crystal constructs emerged from beneath ruined towers, towering guardian beings forged from living Balance energy.

"The Dawn Guardians," one Sentinel explained. "Protectors of the Heart."

Their glowing eyes illuminated one by one across the city.

Even Lucien looked impressed.

"Now those are useful."

The Spirit Guide snorted softly.

Try not to get destroyed immediately.

Lucien looked offended.

"I survive plenty."

Barely.

Luke laughed unexpectedly.

Both ancient beings turned toward him immediately.

The boy quickly tried to hide his smile.

"I forgot you two argue like old married people sometimes."

Lucien stared at him in disbelief while the Spirit Guide looked deeply insulted.

Then, somehow…

Even Lucien laughed.

A real laugh.

Brief. Quiet. But real.

Luke blinked in surprise.

Moments like these were still rare.

And because of that… they mattered.

Suddenly, the entire sanctuary shook violently.

BOOOOOOOOM.

The skies dimmed again.

Ancient warning bells screamed across the floating city.

The Sentinels immediately raised their weapons.

"It has reached the outer barrier!"

Luke rushed toward the terrace edge again.

Far beyond the sanctuary walls, the primordial storm had arrived completely now.

And for the first time…

Vaelthoros revealed itself fully.

Luke's breath stopped.

The Primordial towered over floating ruins like a nightmare given form. Its massive body shifted constantly between darkness, broken cosmic matter, and skeletal structures larger than mountains. Thousands of glowing hollow eyes opened across its body while enormous claws tore through reality itself with every movement.

And everywhere it stepped… laws collapsed.

Fragments of floating islands lost gravity and spiraled into nothingness.

Light bent unnaturally.

Time flickered.

The sanctuary barriers trembled violently against its presence alone.

Even the Dawn Guardians hesitated.

Then Vaelthoros spoke.

Its voice shattered through the sanctuary like thunder from the end of creation itself.

"THE HEART… HAS AWAKENED."

Luke instinctively stepped backward as the Primordial's countless eyes suddenly focused directly on him.

Every single one.

The Spirit Guide immediately moved protectively in front of him.

Do not let it touch you.

Vaelthoros slowly moved closer toward the sanctuary barriers.

"THE LAST DAWNBLOOD…"

The pendant around Luke's neck erupted into golden light.

The entire sanctuary responded instantly.

Massive streams of Balance energy surged through the floating city while ancient runes ignited across every tower and bridge.

The Heart Chamber was reacting.

A colossal beam of golden light shot upward from deep within the sanctuary's center.

The skies exploded with ancient energy.

Everyone froze.

The Heart of Creation had fully awakened.

And Vaelthoros roared in fury.
