Dawn had not yet broken when they left.
The palace slept behind them, its towering walls fading into shadow as Lucien, Celestia, Naamah, and the Spirit Guide moved through the silent air between realms. No horses, no guards, no banners accompanied them. This was not a journey meant for armies.
It was a journey meant for those who understood the weight of ancient truths.
The sky around them gradually changed as they traveled. The familiar stars began to disappear, replaced by a strange pale glow that seemed to exist without a source.
Naamah noticed it first.
"Well," she muttered, glancing upward, "that's unsettling."
Lucien didn't slow his pace.
"It's supposed to be."
Celestia walked beside him, her hand resting unconsciously over her abdomen. The child had been unusually quiet since they began the journey, as though listening to something only it could hear.
"The First Sanctuary," she said softly.
The Spirit Guide floated ahead of them, its silver form lighting their path.
"It was built before the celestial courts," the Guide explained. "Before laws were written. Before Heaven and Hell divided themselves from the rest of creation."
Naamah frowned.
"So basically… before everyone started lying."
Lucien smirked slightly.
"That's one way to put it."
They descended gradually toward a massive valley surrounded by mountains that seemed carved from pale crystal. The air there felt heavier, older.
When their feet finally touched the ground, silence greeted them.
Not the ordinary silence of an empty place.
This silence felt sacred.
Even Naamah lowered her voice instinctively.
"So… this is it?"
Before them stood a structure half-buried within the mountainside.
The First Sanctuary.
It did not resemble a temple or a palace. Instead it looked like something grown from the world itself. Towering pillars of smooth white stone rose into the sky, each etched with symbols so ancient they seemed to shift when one stared at them too long.
Lucien studied the carvings.
"I've never seen writing this old."
The Spirit Guide answered quietly.
"Few have."
Celestia stepped forward.
As soon as she crossed the invisible threshold leading toward the Sanctuary, something changed.
The ground beneath her feet glowed faintly.
Naamah blinked.
"Oh."
Lucien looked at the light spreading slowly beneath Celestia's steps.
"Looks like the place recognizes you."
Celestia frowned slightly.
"Or the child."
The Spirit Guide nodded.
"The heir carries the authority of Balance. The Sanctuary responds to it."
They moved closer.
The massive entrance doors stood open.
Lucien frowned.
"That's… suspicious."
Naamah drew a small blade from her side.
"You think Lilith beat us here?"
Lucien shook his head slowly.
"No."
The Spirit Guide drifted toward the entrance.
"This place cannot be opened by force."
Celestia stepped inside first.
Lucien stayed close beside her, his protective instincts sharp as ever.
The interior of the Sanctuary was vast.
A long hall stretched forward into darkness, its walls lined with countless stone tablets and ancient relics sealed behind translucent barriers of light.
Naamah's eyes widened slightly.
"Well… someone kept very detailed records."
Celestia walked slowly between the pillars.
The glow beneath her feet continued to follow her.
"It feels… alive."
Lucien nodded.
"It's reacting to you."
At the far end of the hall stood a circular chamber.
At its center rested a pedestal carved from deep blue stone.
And upon that pedestal lay a single scroll.
Lucien's eyes narrowed immediately.
"That was too easy."
Naamah approached cautiously.
"No traps?"
The Spirit Guide's voice echoed through the chamber.
"There are no traps here."
Celestia stepped closer to the pedestal.
The scroll was wrapped in thin silver thread, untouched by time.
She reached for it slowly.
The moment her fingers brushed the ancient parchment—
the entire Sanctuary reacted.
A deep vibration echoed through the stone halls.
Lucien instantly moved closer.
"What did you do?"
Celestia carefully lifted the scroll.
"I think I woke something."
Naamah turned as faint lights began appearing along the walls.
The ancient tablets surrounding them began glowing faintly, their inscriptions awakening after thousands of years.
The Spirit Guide's voice grew more serious.
"The Sanctuary remembers."
Celestia unrolled the scroll carefully.
Ancient writing covered its surface—far older than the language of Heaven's courts.
Lucien leaned closer.
"Can you read it?"
Celestia nodded slowly.
"Yes."
Her eyes moved across the text.
Then her expression changed.
Naamah noticed immediately.
"That look again."
Lucien frowned.
"What does it say?"
Celestia's voice became quiet.
"This is the original petition."
Lucien crossed his arms.
"The one written against Heaven."
"Yes."
Naamah leaned closer.
"And?"
Celestia swallowed slightly.
"And it wasn't written by mortals."
Lucien blinked.
"…what?"
Celestia looked up.
"It was written by the first guardians of Balance."
Silence filled the chamber.
Naamah spoke first.
"You're telling me Heaven ignored a warning from Balance itself?"
Celestia nodded slowly.
"Yes."
Lucien muttered darkly.
"That explains a lot."
But Celestia kept reading.
Then she froze.
Lucien noticed immediately.
"What now?"
Celestia looked up slowly.
"There's something else."
Naamah groaned.
"Of course there is."
Celestia's voice dropped to a whisper.
"The petition doesn't just accuse Heaven."
Lucien frowned.
"What else could it—"
Celestia finished the sentence quietly.
"It predicts the birth of the heir of Balance."
The chamber went completely still.
Lucien stared at her.
"…you're joking."
Celestia shook her head.
"It's written here."
Naamah moved closer.
"What does it say exactly?"
Celestia read the final line aloud.
"When the scales of creation are broken beyond repair… the heir shall rise from love between light and darkness."
Lucien slowly exhaled.
"Well."
Naamah looked between them.
"That's very specific."
Celestia placed a hand over her abdomen again.
The child stirred once more.
Lucien looked toward the scroll.
"So the prophecy about our son…"
Celestia nodded.
"…is older than Heaven itself."
But far away—
in the hidden corridors of the Veil Archive—
Lilith stepped into the ancient vault where the false Petition Scroll had been sealed.
Her crimson eyes gleamed as she approached the pedestal.
"Finally."
She reached for the scroll.
And smiled.
Unaware that the real truth had already been claimed.
