After Cassandra left, I remained standing at the doorway for a few seconds, my eyes fixed on the empty hallway she had disappeared into.
I couldn't help but wonder why she seemed to dislike me so much.
I searched my memory carefully. I had never crossed her. Never spoken badly to her. Never competed with her.
Yet the hostility in her eyes had not been ordinary jealousy. It had been something deeper. Something territorial. Like she believed my mere presence was a threat.
What exactly does she think I came here for…
I finally closed the door quietly and walked back into the room. The silence inside felt heavier now.
My steps carried me toward the large window, and I pushed the curtain aside slightly. Outside, the evening was already settling in. The sky was turning darker, the golden light fading into deep blue.
Time was moving too fast.
