"We have removed all the sand from her wounds, Alpha. Her healing will be perfected," the medic informed me, stepping back from the specialized medical table.
"How long until the next phase?" I gripped her limp, cool hand in mine, my chest tightening as a breathy groan escaped her pale lips.
"One hour," she supplied, adjusting her glasses nervously before turning to check the monitoring crystals.
One hour. And after that would be the final round with a new trial chosen by the Lykaois stone. One down, two more to go. Her body remained clammy against my skin, and a wave of pure helplessness struck me as I found myself utterly unable to offer her warmth.
I felt like I had been trapped in this stone chamber since I woke up this morning, suffocated by the smell of ozone and copper. The fact that she was not flinching away from my touch now was the only thing keeping me grounded.
