I stepped into his office and watched him freeze at his desk.
I raised a brow despite the dread bunched in my chest. I was not sure why I was doing this or when I had grown so brazen, but I simply could not—would not—simply forget everything that happened yesterday.
I cast him a wary look that he seemed to try and decipher. "Hello, Lena," he murmured, shock coloring his voice. He looked like a man caught in a crime.
I arched my brow even higher, grazing his form with my eyes. "Hello to you too, Mikhail."
For a stretched moment, we stood like that, assessing each other in the wake of the silence. He swallowed, and I could have sworn I saw a flush spread across his pale cheeks. I tried not to show my astonishment because I had never seen him blush.
"Is there something I can help you with, Selene?" There was no irritation in his tone at my intrusion and subsequent staring. I was still on track.
