"No," Mai countered, eyes sharp. "There's still fighting spirit in Jonouchi's gaze."
Even Dark Yugi could see the fire burning in Jonouchi's eyes.
So he still has another line, Dark Yugi thought.
"I activate the Spell Red-Eyes Fusion from my hand!"
Here it comes… Red-Eyes Slash Dragon, Dark Yugi predicted. But my Dark Magician is at 3200 ATK. Even if Slash Dragon stacks ATK with its effect, it only reaches 3000!
"I'm fusing Red-Eyes Black Dragon with Meteor Dragon—Red-Eyes Impact Dragon from my Deck! Fusion Summon!"
"What?!" Dark Yugi's eyes widened. "He's fusing Red-Eyes Black Dragon with Meteor Dragon—Red-Eyes Impact Dragon?!"
"Come forth—Meteor Dragon, Meteor Black Dragon!"

"I activate Meteor Black Dragon's effect! When it's Fusion Summoned, I can send 1 'Red-Eyes' monster from my hand or Deck to the Graveyard, then inflict damage to you equal to half that monster's ATK!"
"I send Red-Eyes Black Flare Dragon from my Deck to the Graveyard—Yugi, take 1200 damage!"
"What?!"

"If Jonouchi's Meteor Black Dragon attacks your Magician of Dark Illusion," Bakura said, voice tight, "you'll lose!"
"I can't believe Jonouchi is going to win from that position," Honda muttered.
"Heh heh… what an ending," Pegasus mused. "Looks like Game Boy is finished."
"I… I'm going to win," Jonouchi whispered, his hand trembling as he gripped his cards.
"Battle! Meteor Black Dragon attacks Magician of Dark Illusion!"
A torrent of flames swallowed the Spellcaster whole.
"I won!" Jonouchi declared—
"SORE WA DŌ KANA." Dark Yugi's voice cut through the air like a blade.
"Jonouchi… I haven't lost yet!"
"What?!"
Everyone froze. Jonouchi stared at the Life Point display—Dark Yugi was still at 800.
"Why…? How is that possible?!"
"When you attacked," Dark Yugi said, "I sent this card from my hand to the Graveyard."
He revealed the card.
"Kuriboh!" Jonouchi gasped.
"That's right. By sending Kuriboh from my hand to the Graveyard, the battle damage I would take becomes 0!"
"Heh… figures it wouldn't be that simple," Jonouchi snarled. "I set one card. Turn end." (Cards in hand: 2)
"This duel ends next turn," Kisaragi said calmly from above.
Dark Yugi's Turn
"My turn—draw!"
"I activate Pot of Greed! I draw two cards!"
Dark Yugi glanced at what he'd drawn—his lips slowly curled into a confident smile.
"Jonouchi… you've shown your trump card. Then it's only right that I reveal mine."
"What?!" Jonouchi tensed.
"Come on, Yugi!" Jonouchi shouted. "Bring it!"
"I activate Polymerization from my hand! I fuse Dark Magician on my field with Skilled Dark Magician Swordsman in my hand!"*
Kisaragi's pupils constricted.
"Yugi… you're summoning that monster?" she breathed.
"That monster?" Mai asked, startled by Kisaragi's reaction. "Is it really that strong?"
"Yeah," Kisaragi said quietly. "Just watch."
"Fusion Summon—appear! Dark Paladin!"
Dark Paladin (2800/2300)
"Dark Paladin has three effects," Dark Yugi said, smiling. "First: its ATK increases by 100 for every Spell and Trap card on both fields and in both Graveyards!"
"Then that means—!" Mai's eyes snapped wide.
"Exactly," Kisaragi said. "At this stage of the duel, there are piles of Spells and Traps stacked across both sides. That's what makes him terrifying… and he's not even fully online yet."
"Jonouchi—between our fields and Graveyards, there are 16 Spells and Traps total. Therefore, Dark Paladin gains 1700 ATK!"

"ATK… 4500?!" Jonouchi staggered back.
"Also, because Dark Magician was sent to the Graveyard as Fusion Material, the Equip Spell Spellbook of Sorcery was sent there too—so I activate its effect! When it's sent from the field to the Graveyard, I recover 1000 Life Points!"

"Battle! Dark Paladin attacks Meteor Black Dragon!"
"I activate the Continuous Trap Forced End!**
I can send 1 card I control (except this card) to the Graveyard—then the Battle Phase ends!"

Meteor Black Dragon vanished, and Dark Paladin's charge halted, robbed of its target.
"And I activate Meteor Black Dragon's effect! When this card is sent from the Monster Zone to the Graveyard, I can target 1 Normal Monster in my Graveyard and Special Summon it!"

"And because an additional Spell/Trap now exists on the field or in the Graveyard," Dark Yugi added coldly, "Dark Paladin's ATK rises by another 100."
