Chapter 57 - CHAPTER 57: Kaiba’s Crushing Defeat — Everyone Enters the Castle

"So you found a countermeasure?" Pegasus murmured. "Because of Miss Kisaragi, I can't read Kaiba-boy's thoughts anymore… what a troublesome woman."

His tone carried a clear edge of irritation.

"Take this! I activate the effect of The White Stone of Ancients in my Graveyard—banish it, and I can add one 'Blue-Eyes' monster from my Graveyard to my hand!"

"The one I'm taking back is Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon!" Kaiba held the card up right in front of Pegasus.

"And since there are two fewer Dragon monsters in my Graveyard, your Toon Destruction Swordsman loses 1000 ATK!"

Toon Destruction Swordsman (4100/2300)

"That's enough," Kaiba said.

"Kaiba-boy," Pegasus drawled, deliberately stretching his words, "don't forget I still have Toon Kingdom. As long as it's on the field, my Toon monsters will never be destroyed~"

"So what?" Kaiba said with contempt.

"What?"

"In front of this card, any petty trick is meaningless!" Kaiba slapped a card onto the platform.

"Kisaragi… thanks for giving me this." Kaiba even managed a faint smile.

"I activate the Spell Card Ultimate Burst Stream! This lets Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon attack three times during the Battle Phase—and when it declares an attack, you can't activate Spell Cards, Trap Cards, or monster effects! Even if your monsters are protected by Toon Kingdom, you won't be able to activate it in response!"

"Hmhmhm…" Pegasus's laughter drifted across the arena.

"What are you laughing at?!" Kaiba's heart sank at how calm Pegasus looked.

"Kaiba-boy, Ultimate Burst Stream really is a wonderful card. If I hadn't already seen you use it before… I might have lost this duel."

Pegasus pointed to his own field.

"Take a good look at this card."

Kaiba's pupils shrank.

"Toon Narrator…?"

"Let me explain," Pegasus said. "As long as I control Toon World and a Toon monster, when a monster effect, Spell, or Trap is activated—I can activate Toon Narrator to negate that activation and destroy it."

"In other words, your Ultimate Burst Stream is negated and destroyed. Sure, the card prevents me from responding when your Ultimate Dragon attacks—but that doesn't mean I'm forbidden from responding when you activate Ultimate Burst Stream itself."

The light in Kaiba's eyes faded away, replaced by endless confusion—like his spirit had been hollowed out.

"End… my turn…" he muttered.

It was as if all of Kaiba's will to fight had evaporated. He didn't even enter the Battle Phase—he simply passed.

"Heh. Looks like this farce is ready to end," Pegasus said.

"My turn—draw!"

"Mokuba… I'm sorry. Big brother can't save you this time." Kaiba closed his eyes, bracing for the final blow.

"Battle! Toon Destruction Swordsman attacks you directly!"

"Kisaragi… I guess I can't beat Pegasus on my own. I'm leaving the rest to you…" Kaiba whispered.

The Toon swordsman raised its massive blade and cleaved downward—Kaiba didn't move at all as the strike landed.

At that moment, the Millennium Eye flared with light. Kaiba was bathed in it—his consciousness slipping away.

In the final instant before he fell into darkness, Kaiba saw Kisaragi's back in front of him. He reached out desperately—

but her silhouette grew farther and farther away, shrinking… until it vanished completely.

Kaiba collapsed against the Duelist Kingdom machine, his right hand still frozen in a grasping pose.

"Now Kaiba-boy's soul is sealed," Pegasus said, smiling as he admired the card that imprisoned Kaiba's spirit.

"Next is you, Miss Kisaragi. Once I defeat you, I'll obtain the final piece I need to fulfill my dream."

"Ha… hahaha… hahahaha!"

Pegasus's laughter echoed through the entire castle.

Time returned to the present.

Kisaragi's body had recovered, but the spirit inside her was still restless—she could only keep communicating with it, calming it down, forcing it to settle.

Because of what happened, no one spoke along the way. Only when they finally reached Pegasus's castle did the silence break.

From the start, Kisaragi's expression remained stern—nothing like her earlier innocent liveliness.

"Heh… this really doesn't feel like me," she said with a small, bitter smile.

At the gate, two bodyguards blocked them.

"Show your Star Chips!"

Kisaragi, Yugi, Jounouchi, and Mai raised their gloved hands in unison, displaying their chips.

"Confirmed. Congratulations—you four have passed the preliminaries. You may enter Pegasus's castle!"

The guards stepped aside. The four duelists entered first—

—but when Anzu and the others tried to follow, they were stopped.

"You three are not allowed inside!"

"We're the cheer squad," Honda pleaded with an ingratiating grin. "Can't you cut us some slack?"

"No."

"They're with me," Kisaragi said sharply, her eyes like blades. She was in no mood to waste time arguing.

The guard's phone suddenly rang.

"Yes—yes!" he said repeatedly, listening intently.

"…Alright. You may enter."

"Why are we suddenly allowed in now?" Anzu asked, confused.

"Probably because they only care that I get inside," Kisaragi said coolly. "As long as I can enter, nothing else matters."

They entered the castle and reached the main hall.

Not far away stood a man—blond hair wrapped in a headband patterned like the American flag, wearing sunglasses, a full beard, and a huge, brawler's physique that screamed trouble.

"Who's that?" Jounouchi asked.

"I've seen him on TV," Yugi said. "His name is Keith Howard—the American national champion."

"I've heard the rumors too," Mai added. "In the U.S., he practically swept every Duel Monsters tournament purse. People called him a prize hunter—Bandit Keith."

"But after he lost to Pegasus in some tournament, he disappeared. I didn't think he'd show up here."

Keith noticed them and walked over.

"Yo. So there are other duelists who made it here," he said with a grin. "A real crazy duel just happened. That KaibaCorp president lost to Pegasus and went down like a sack of bricks—pathetic! Hahahaha!"
