Chapter 73 - CHAPTER : 73

So… Does This Lady Have a Thing for Men?

After Martha finished arranging everything, she left.

The moment the dorm door clicked shut, the obedient, eager expression on Firefly's face collapsed. Worry—and a hint of dissatisfaction—took its place.

"Senior!"

She strode up to Wei Qing, pink-violet eyes fixed on him.

"Are we really going to meet that… that 'Flawless Radiance'?"

"I heard she's… she's terrifying! And she's the Luofu's Sword Champion, right? What if she recognizes you?"

Her concern was painfully sincere.

In her simple worldview, the Xianzhou Alliance was a pack of villains who'd wronged Wei Qing. And if Jingliu was one of their strongest—then she had to be an even bigger villain.

Letting Wei Qing walk right up to someone like that was the same as walking into a trap.

Firefly absolutely refused to let that happen.

Wei Qing watched her looking like she was about to storm a dragon's lair and couldn't help finding it a little funny.

He lifted a hand out of habit, intending to ruffle her hair—only for Firefly to instinctively tilt her head away.

She was too tense and too indignant to be soothed like a child.

"Senior!" Her voice carried a rare stubborn edge.

Wei Qing's hand froze midair. He chuckled helplessly and lowered it.

"Relax. She shouldn't be able to recognize me right now."

His tone was calm—steady in a way that made people want to believe him.

"The Wei Qing she knew back on the Luofu and the Wei Qing standing here are completely different."

He'd disguised everything: his appearance, his aura, even the flavor of his Path.

At this moment, he was just an ordinary Company employee—one who'd brought his younger sister along to "build experience" in some grimy frontier assignment.

"But even if she can't recognize you," Firefly muttered, cheeks puffing slightly, "why do I have to get close to her on purpose?"

"I don't want to go anywhere near that bad woman."

Wei Qing found her sulking expression genuinely amusing, but he kept his face straight.

"It's mission requirements, Liu Jian."

His voice softened as he explained.

"In Elio's script, something big is going to happen on Jarilo. It might involve the Xianzhou group."

"Flawless Radiance is an important figure. If we start from her side, it'll be easier to get the clues we need."

Then he paused—just a fraction.

"And… I also want to see with my own eyes how that old friend is doing these days."

Firefly caught the faintest ripple in his voice.

She didn't fully understand what it meant, but she could feel it—Wei Qing's attention toward that "bad woman" wasn't simple.

It made something sour twist in her chest, like someone had stolen a piece of him she didn't want to share.

But she swallowed the feeling down.

If it was for the mission, for his plan—then she would do it.

"I understand, Senior."

She took a deep breath, forcing herself to straighten up.

"I'll do my best to get close to her."

The expression on her face looked less like determination and more like she was marching to an execution.

Early the next morning, Martha knocked on their door right on time.

Seeing Wei Qing and Firefly already prepared, she nodded in satisfaction.

Especially Firefly—she'd put on a clean, practical uniform, her hair carefully tidied. There was still a trace of youthful nervousness on her face, but she was trying her hardest to look composed.

She looked exactly like a bright-eyed newcomer desperate for guidance.

The kind of good kid who could make anyone's defenses drop.

"Good. Let's go."

Martha led the way, brimming with energy.

"The meeting starts soon. If we leave early, we might get a chance to speak to that lady before it begins."

Qlipoth Fort, the power center of Belobog, felt even more solemn than usual.

Company military representatives, Silvermane Guard officers, and the Xianzhou visitors all arrived one after another.

With the Antimatter Legion's assaults growing more frequent, today's strategic meeting was another matter of life and death.

"That woman… that's Jingliu, right?"

Before the meeting began, Firefly's gaze threaded through the busy crowd and landed on a lone figure by a pillar.

Tall and straight.

Plain Xianzhou attire, light armor layered on top.

Frost-white hair tied back simply, as if the surrounding noise didn't exist.

Firefly had seen Jingliu's photos online. Recognizing her wasn't hard.

Martha guided them through the crowd toward the cold, quiet presence.

"Lady Jingliu."

She stopped a few steps away and spoke respectfully.

Jingliu didn't turn around. Her voice was flat.

"What is it?"

Martha immediately nudged Firefly forward, smiling hard enough to look painful.

"Lady Jingliu, this is our branch's new intern—Liu Jian."

"She admires you deeply. She's also a Pathstrider of The Hunt. Would you be willing to offer her a line or two of guidance?"

Firefly stumbled half a step from the shove, nearly losing her footing.

She lifted her head—and met Jingliu just as she turned.

Her mind went blank.

Every line she'd rehearsed evaporated.

"I—I…"

Her cheeks flared red. In the end, she could only bow stiffly.

"P-please… instruct me!"

But Jingliu's eyes slid past Firefly without stopping.

Those crimson pupils pierced straight through her—locking onto the person standing half a step behind her, posture humble and ordinary.

Wei Qing.

The air seemed to congeal.

Martha's smile froze.

She hadn't expected Jingliu to ignore Firefly entirely, only to focus on the "ordinary older brother" behind her.

She couldn't understand why a lofty Sword Champion would pay attention to some Company grunt.

What did that mean?

Could it be… that this great figure wasn't as aloof as everyone said?

Could it be she… liked men?

Firefly's heart skipped violently.

She reflexively shifted her feet, trying to block Wei Qing from Jingliu's line of sight.

Too late.

Wei Qing lowered his head slightly.

"Greetings, Lady Jingliu."

No response.

In that suffocating silence—

Jingliu moved.

So fast the eye couldn't catch it. The world flashed white.

A blade-cold streak tore through the air.

No warning. No question. No emotion wasted.

Jingliu raised two fingers like a sword. A razor-edged, freezing sword-shadow formed out of nothing and stabbed straight at Wei Qing.

It wasn't a test.

It was naked, merciless killing intent.
