The branch supervisor, Hans, was a stern middle-aged man. Every word he spoke carried the weight of absolute authority.
"The Company providing you shelter and resources doesn't mean we'll take responsibility for your stupidity."
"We understand. Thank you for the warning," Wei Qing replied.
Firefly hurriedly nodded along.
Hans seemed satisfied with their compliance. He waved a hand. "Martha will take you to your temporary quarters. If there's work, she'll assign it."
Martha—the female coworker from earlier—answered with a crisp acknowledgment and motioned for Wei Qing and Firefly to follow.
The corridor to the dormitory wing was long and quiet, their footsteps echoing in the emptiness.
"Don't take it personally," Martha lowered her voice as they walked. "Supervisor Hans is always like that."
"The pressure on the front line has been brutal lately. We've thrown a lot into this operation, but the fighting is still stuck in a deadlock. The Antimatter Legion is like a swarm of locusts—no matter how much you clear, another wave crawls right back."
"Understandable. Work comes first," Wei Qing said, then smoothly asked, "By the way, I heard the Xianzhou Alliance recently sent people to Jarilo?"
Martha paused, then nodded as if the memory clicked into place. "Oh, that."
"Yeah. Several of them arrived. Alliance support, they said—and every one of them is ridiculously strong. They've helped us deal with a lot of trouble."
Her tone dipped into unmistakable reverence.
"Especially that one… mm, Lady 'Flawless Radiance'. Terrifyingly strong."
"Headquarters didn't want to invest too many resources here," she added, voice turning faintly bitter. "We were close to writing this planet off."
"But with her here… maybe Jarilo still has a chance."
Wei Qing's eyes flickered, so subtly it was almost nothing.
He'd only come because he'd sensed the presence of a long-lived aura on this world.
And now he was hearing Jingliu was here on Jarilo?
He'd heard stories—how that old friend had been roaming the cosmos, seemingly searching for him.
So she'd… stumbled onto the right trail by accident?
Firefly seemed to catch the shift as well. She stole a quiet glance at Wei Qing.
She'd heard that title too—Flawless Radiance. Supposedly it belonged to a woman named Jingliu.
A bad woman, in Firefly's mind.
One of those Luofu people who mistreated her senior and forced him to leave.
Martha suddenly brightened, as if remembering something important.
"Oh! Right—Firefly, wasn't it? I heard you're a Pathstrider of The Hunt?"
Firefly froze and reflexively looked to Wei Qing.

Honestly, she'd already lost track.
Wei Qing gave the smallest nod.
"Y-yes, Senior Martha," Firefly answered quickly, forcing her expression to look natural. "But… I'm still very new. Barely an apprentice."
"That's still amazing!" Martha smiled. "Across the cosmos, Pathstriders aren't exactly common."
"Who knows—maybe one day you'll become as formidable as Lady Flawless Radiance!"
The admiration in Martha's voice was unmistakable. Clearly, that "Flawless Radiance" had already become something like a living legend on the Belobog front.
Firefly could only smile vaguely, not quite understanding why Martha was suddenly flattering her—but her wariness toward that title sharpened.
"And actually," Martha continued, eyes shining like she'd just come up with a brilliant plan, "this is a rare opportunity for you."
"Lady Flawless Radiance is resting in Belobog right now. She's the Sword Champion of the Xianzhou Luofu—one of the top experts on The Hunt. Most people would be lucky just to see her from a distance."
"If you can get even one or two lines of guidance from her, that could change your entire life."
Martha paused, then lowered her voice further, adopting a confidential, coaxing tone.
"And besides… Firefly, you're adorable. If you can leave a good impression on her, maybe she'll stay longer and help us."
"You know how it is—the Legion's attacks keep getting worse. If she stays, our defenses stabilize. A lot."
So that was Martha's real goal.
Firefly's heart lurched. Her first instinct was to refuse.
Go meet that woman—maybe the very person who'd harmed her senior—and then try to get close to her?
No chance.
Firefly had chosen her side already.
She shot a pleading look at Wei Qing.
Wei Qing met her eyes for a brief moment—his gaze calm, encouraging.
A tiny motion, but it landed like an order.
Firefly swallowed down her resistance.
She understood: this is part of the mission.
Taking a breath, she forced a shy, hopeful smile.
"R-really? I… I could?" she said softly. "Someone like me… why would Lady Flawless Radiance even bother…"
"Hey, it's worth trying!" Martha pressed eagerly. "And don't be fooled by how intimidating her aura is—back on the Luofu, she did guide juniors sometimes, from what I've heard."
"You're young, you're cute—maybe she'll take a liking to you. Think of it as testing your luck!"
Martha's internal算盘 was practically audible.
If this girl could charm the Sword Champion into staying on Jarilo longer, it would take pressure off the Company's deployment—and that would be a huge merit on Martha's record.
"Then… I'll try?" Firefly agreed hesitantly, fingers twisting at the edge of her sleeve.
"Perfect!" Martha immediately flipped through her schedule board. "Let's see…"
"Tomorrow we're meeting the Great Guardian together with the Xianzhou team to discuss strategy."
"Get some rest tonight. Tomorrow I'll bring you two along, alright?"
Wei Qing smoothly stepped in. "Thank you so much, Senior Martha, for giving my sister a chance. We won't cause you any trouble."
Martha looked pleased by his tact. She nodded with a smile. "Good. As long as you know what you're doing."
She stopped outside a door and gestured.
"This is your temporary room. It's a bit bare, but you'll have everything you need. Rest up. I'll come get you tomorrow."
"Okay. Thank you, Senior Martha," Firefly said obediently, nodding.
