Lyra's POV

#Two days later.

When I was little, Lannister and I played a game right before we were granted our wolves. We wanted to know what it would feel like to heighten our senses so we would catch a little mouse. Lock it in a room, with no shed to hide in.

Frightened by two little kids in a room, the mouse would run each time it saw us coming. The purpose was to smell the rat, to see with our nose when our eyes were blindfolded, and to smell its movement and feel its fear, all with our noses.

Sure, this exercise was just out of pure impatience, because once we got our wolves, we could do more than just smell things. We could hear things from a long distance, not excluding footsteps.

But my patience has never been in my arsenal. Lannister, on the other hand, excelled each time, he had the patience to sit, and almost each time the mice would run toward him and run far from me even though he was the perfect predator; he was just the type to welcome anyone and anything.
