Chapter 154 - Top

"Sorry." I said in the direction of the voice. "I'm one of the new students. I always get lost."

There was a short silence from wherever the old man was sitting at.

"For real?" He sounded less alarmed and more annoyed. "How did you even reach the lower corridors? Arma's supposed to be blocking that entrance."

He went quiet again like he was answering his own question while asking it.

"Forget it. I knew that dumb kid wouldn't stay at her post." He muttered it mostly to himself. "Arma never does her job well."

'I'm so sorry Arma.'

A shadow moved ahead, the sound of a chair pushed back, footsteps on stone floor. The old man was getting up and crossing toward the door I could barely make out as a faint rectangle of light. He pressed something on the wall and two glowing stones in the ceiling woke up, casting a dim yellow light across the room.
