Chapter 28 - One Good Hour

The second booking was three weeks after the first.

Daniel was the requested photographer — Philip at Margin had apparently decided that the pairing worked and had built the brief around it. Lina had taken the booking without analysis, which she noted and filed as something to examine later.

They shot for five hours. He brought tea again without asking. She laughed twice. He got both of them.

Afterward, breaking down his equipment with the unhurried efficiency of someone who had done this ten thousand times, he said: "There's a decent coffee place two streets over. If you have time."

She had time.

She was aware she had time in the way she had been aware, at three a.m. in her bathroom, of Lucien's number in her contacts — not as a simple fact but as a thing with weight.

"Yes," she said.
