Chapter 8 - A Solution?

"I can't think of anything else to reduce costs.."

The brunette claimed, putting her pencil down, shifting the notebook to her other hand. She opened and closed the other, repeatedly to stretch out the tired fingers.

"I found a couple potential jobs. Not sure how fun any of 'em would be, though."

The other woman responded, throwing her notepad onto the coffee table, following it up by tossing her pen.

"I suppose we could start with looking at the jobs.."

Kiroku suggested, closing the notebook before placing that too, down on the table. She then scooted closer to the other woman, their shoulders now touching.

"So, here's the list of jobs.. If any of them are possible, I got their tabs open with more information."

"Noted."

The woman nodded, placing her head on the wounded woman's shoulder, giving her a decent look at the list of potential jobs.

"Maybe we should look a little more.."

"Figured you'd say that. What about your list? Any decent things we could do to cut costs?"

The pale woman gulped quietly, suddenly feeling a bit insecure, She leaned away for a moment, reaching for the notebook before grabbing it. With hesitance, she reached her arm out, for the other woman to take it.

"Let's see.."

She suddenly felt a sudden dread cover her. Why was she suddenly so against her suggestions being read?

A few moments passed. She could see the tan woman reading the suggestion over, once, twice, maybe even three times, her expression remained neutral, but at the same time, her eyes felt like they were burning through her soul, despite that they were aimed elsewhere.

"Perhaps sending you to an asylum could be one of them."

The tan woman joked, closing the notebook and tossing it onto the table. Her eyes suddenly shifted to the tense figure,

"Aren't you just the cutest little thing?"

She asked playfully, leaning forward towards the other woman. Her hand slowly reached out, leaving behind two pats on the stressing woman's head.

"..."

A small red hue grew onto her face, before being replaced by her eyes lighting up with an idea.

"Yeah.. maybe that might just work.."

She nodded.

"An asylum has free housing and food!"

She stated, sounding as excited as someone that found the cure for cancer.

"Sure, sure, but that's at the price of freedom. You'll genuinely go insane in a place like that, plus, I wouldn't be able to join you."

The tan female informed, her voice a mixture of sarcasm and confusion.

"You make it sound like I'd go there without you.."

"Yeah, you would, 'cause I'm not going to a fucking asylum for the sake of saving a buck."

"It's not just about saving money! We wouldn't need to worry about a place to stay, or things to do! All of that stuff would be given to us. Plus.. it would get you free from the murder and torture charges."

"You're really beginning to lose it, huh?"

The tan woman asked, an annoyed frown showing on her face.

"Is it the lack of food? Maybe not enough sleep, maybe too much stress..."

She suggested, leaning forward. Her only functional arm taking grasp on the pale woman's shoulder, keeping her still as she personally leaned forward, looking deeply into her eyes.

"They're not bloodshot, only have some bags under them. You don't show any signs of schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, or anything else, potentially a bit of anxiety and mood problems only.."

She analysed, ignoring the way the other woman's warm, unsteady breaths hit her face.

"I would prescribe you with some antidepressants, some Zoloft perhaps. But since I wasn't given my doctor's license, I'll tell you to sleep it off, and maybe have some of that sex you really like."

"i'm not in the mood.."

"I can tell, but, it's late. How about we head to bed and discuss this further tomorrow?"

"Fine.."

And so, first one, then the other, they prepared for bed. Brushing their teeth and changing into their sleepwear, awaiting for the other to arrive in bed.

"How can you even sleep with that on?"

The pale woman asked, tucking herself under the blanket before turning on her side, her gaze turning towards the woman beside her, staring at the bandage, freshly changed and even seemed wet in certain areas where the burns were the worst.

"What? Only in my undies, or with a mummy arm?"

The other woman's voice was one of false offence, as if her very existence was attacked by the comment.

"Mostly the arm thing."

"Mostly, huh~?"

"Never mind.."

The shorter woman responded, the barely noticeable roll of her eyes before she turned to the other side, facing the wall.

"Tomorrow, We'll think more about the situation, and also get some nutrients into that body of yours. You haven't eaten in like.. two days now. You must be starving.."

"mmph.."

"Love you.."

The tan woman said softly, turning onto her back, placing her injured arm onto a separate pillow. Slowly, she closed her heavy eyelids.

"love you, too.."
