The night hung heavy around them, the permeating cold biting into their lungs as it settled in.
In the distance, the figure stood still, it's presence radiating an eerie dread that made the silence of the streets feel alive. It was hard to make out what it could be since the street lights were barely bright.
The lone figure remained unmoved, indifferent to the cold. The more Ryna looked, the more her pale expression twisted into a bitter frown.
The figure then stepped out of the shadows, revealing an appearance they all recognized.
"This guy again! Why the hell would he be following us", Xavion exclaimed in bewilderment.
There were obvious chills in his eyes, until he remembered what the man had said before leaving the restaurant earlier on.
He spawned to Ryna beside him and whispered in fear, "So what do we do now, Ryna?".
Zenix on the other hand, remained quiet ever since they noticed the shadow, preoccupied with his inner thoughts.
It almost seemd like he expected this outcome, betraying his frightened expression.
'There's no doubt that he is here because of me, I was the one he looked at after all. The question however, is what does he want with me?', he thought.
Ryna finally broke the silence, her voice sounding restrained.
"Okay, you're seriously getting on my nerves".
Zenix snapped out of his daze, and with a puzzled expression, he asked.
"So who is this guy, anyways?".
Ryna gave a pause and sighed deeply.
"Might as well tell you now".
"His name is Nyren and... he is more or less an assassin. He comes from... ".
Before the rest of that statement could be altered, Nyren quickly cut in, interrupting her.
"Hush now, you should think carefully before disclosing such knowledge to them. Wouldn't want these younglings to be targeted".
"What's he taking about, Ryna? You need to tell us". Zenix demanded, a hint of tension in his voice.
"Yeah, I agree", Xavion added.
Lifting up one hand, Nyren cracked his fingers, his glacy green eyes glinting with menace. His dark brown hair danced in the wind, obscuring some of his features.
In the cover of darkness, he looked like an omen death.
He grinned slightly and spoke with a dark demeanor, his words felt deep.
"You know exactly why I am here. You can't keep hiding it forever".
She shifted, moving to shield Xavion and Zenix.
"I'd rather die, than submit to the likes of you dirty individuals".
Upon receiving her reply, he lowered his head, a sinister smile finding it's way to his face. He then altered.
"I was hoping you would say that. It's no fun when the target willingly agrees, after all".
The next moment, he had already spawned Infront of her. With his hands in his pockets, his leg hovered above her like, muscles strained and ripped. It then descended upon her.
Leaving her no room to react, all she could do was block blindly, which came at a cost.
The crushing strike, backed by immense power, connected with her crossed arms. She managed to hold up her defense, but the ground beneath her didn't.
Without hesitation, he immediately slammed his knee against her head with explosive speed.
The impact sent her toppling backwards, but in one swift motion, she twisted mid-air, landing nibbly on her feet.
Stunned in place by fear, Xavion turned to Zenix."What do we do?".
With a devastated expression, Zenix replied. "What do you think?".
Looking back at the fight, Xavion watched with crippling anxiety.
"Are you sure she is going to be fine? Because the fight looks mostly one sided".
Zenix observed the lethality of the battle before him with kin eyes. Indeed, Nyren was having the upper hand.
'I really hope she will'.
Meanwhile, the clash between Ryna and Nyren raged on. It was an unslaught of rootless attacks, each with impressive power.
Their reflexes were refined, yet inhuman, murderous glees in their eyes. Ryna weaved, blocked, and countered with great prowess, like a seasoned veteran.
But despite her incredible battle prowess, the gap in raw power was eminent.
Alas... skill alone meant nothing before the sheer dominance of a power house.
Ryna looked to be in very rough shape, her clothes torn and tattered, and her body adorned by bruises.
She spat out a mix of saliva and blood, and wiped the dirt of her face. Getting up on one foot, she glanced at Zenix and Xavion. There was a cold determination in her eyes.
"Had enough yet?", Nyren mocked.
Zenix and Xavion watched, stunned in place by Ryan's pitiful state.
Nyren proceeded to flick his finger, sending a torrent of air pressure so violent, forcing Ryan to the ground and roiling to a stop.
"Now tell me where the vessel is", he said with a growl. "If you do, then I might just spare their lives".
He then flash stepped, materializing behind the two petrified individuals.
Ryna scurried around, trying desperately to get to them, but her weakened body gave in to the pain.
As she crawled, she cried out.
"No, don't. Leave them out of this... please".
"Don't do it Nyren".
At that moment, the sound of approaching sirens flooded the deserted streets, like a feeling of pure euphoria.
"Good the police have arrived... But wait, who could have called them?".
Zenix was both relieved and burdened by the sudden turn of events. When they had first arrived, the entire area had been dead silent, with not a single soul in sight.
The shimmering head lights of police vans soon tore through the sahodws engulfing the roads, paving the way.
Nyren leaned forward, and whispered into their ears. His grin was so dubious and unnerving.
"Do you really think that I--am afraid of the lowly police?".
The next moment, like a gush of wind, what seemed to be a wave of light, washed over the area.
"Wait it's like the other night...."
"Huh! What's going on, I can't fee--".
Zenix felt like he was in a daze, as all of his senses slowly dulled. He looked around but couldn't quit make of what was happening.
His vision was distorted, and his hearing numbed. And then, he blacked out.
