The Lost Vampire System Chapter 62 - The Expedition Begins
"You have unlocked the trade Tactical Vanguard," the system continued. "This trade allows you to gain heightened awareness of optimal positioning in group fights or skirmishes. You instinctively move to create openings for allies, draw enemy attention to yourself at the right moments, or identify weak points in enemy lines without overextending. With this trade, your decisions as a leader are better."
Madison snapped her fingers in front of his face, which snapped Jareth back to reality.
"You really need to learn to look at your system and your surroundings," Madison muttered very quietly, that only Jareth's good hearing could pick up on it.
"Yeah, uh, sorry," Jareth muttered. "I'll work on that."
"JJ," Arden said as she walked over, which made the corner of Jareth's lip twitch as he didn't expect that she would call him that. "Hold back your strength next time, as you know I'm normal."
Arden then patted Jareth on the head, which made Madison narrow her eyes. After some more training, Jareth grabbed his backpack and umbrella as the group got together and left the 20th floor, going down to the ground floor so they could eat dinner. They did their usual, getting dinner, but they sat at one of the big open tables in the middle of the hall. While they were getting their food, Madison quickly pulled Jareth and Keira out of the hall.
"Ok," Madison said. "Just feed from her wrist before someone comes by.
Jareth looked at Keira as she nodded.
"Thanks again," Jareth said as he grabbed Keira's wrist, and once it was close enough to his mouth, his eyes glowed dimly and his fangs elongated as he bit down.
Keira covered her mouth as this time she felt a sense of euphoria as her vision went in and out. Her legs started to lightly shake as she could feel euphoria from the blood coming out of her wrist. The feeling abruptly ended when Jareth released his mouth and rubbed around the spit left behind. The wound healed until it was like there was no wound there at all. Keira sighed as they returned to their group.
The now 12 group, as Arden had joined them, ate dinner, and Jareth, as usual, slipped the food to Madison. Arden noticed this but didn't say anything. Once the group was done eating, they parted as they went to their living quarters. Now only Jareth, Damion, and Henry were walking together to their room.
"I think you are ready for tomorrow," Damion said to Henry.
"You believe that I am?" Henry asked.
"I do," Damion said. "Same for you, Jareth. At least for emergencies."
The three of them immediately, and immediately Jareth and Damion ran to the bathroom. Damion kicked back his leg, tripping Jareth as his face hit the ground.
"Well, that was rude," Apollo said as Damion entered the bathroom.
"Loser," Damion said as he closed the door.
Jareth grunted as he got up with a slight smirk on his face. He enjoyed this little banter, as back in his old school he didn't have any friends and just got bullied. He also switched his switchable trade class from Evolved Swordsman to his only other switchable trade, Tactical Vanguard. When he switched the trade, he didn't feel any different, though he thought this might be due to the fact that it acted as a passive ability and not a skill-based one. He just hoped that it would help, and he went to the bathroom after Damion got out.
Jareth got ready, and he got into his covers.
"See you again in like a second," Apollo chuckled as he fell asleep.
"Daily quests completed," the system said in Jareth's head, which went unnoticed as he was asleep. "10 Exp has been granted, and the system did not notify you of the last time you completed your quest. Exp: 95 of 200. Daily quests have been reset."
The night went on.
A light chuckle swept the room, but nobody that was actually present in the room made a sound.
Then a soft, quiet voice spoke. "I finally found you, my love."
The next day had arrived, and like usual, the three boys were sleeping soundly when the small speaker at the back of the room above Damion's bed turned on instead of Damion's alarm.
"Good morning, first-year students!" the intercom system announced, waking Jareth up.
"What is that?" Jareth groaned like he hadn't used his vocal cords in years.
"Good morning!" Apollo said.
Jareth jolted when he heard Apollo's voice. Apollo, seeing through Jareth's eyes that he jolted, chuckled lightly.
"Good morning, first-year students!" the intercom system announced once more.
Damion and Henry stirred when they heard it a second time.
"What?" Damion asked as he sat up. "I have to pee."
Damion threw off the covers, but Jareth had already dashed to the bathroom just as Damion got up.
"Loser," Jareth snickered as he closed the door.
Damion flicked him off, but Jareth didn't see it as he had already closed the door.
"Good morning, first-year students!" the intercom system announced for the third and final time as it continued. "Today is Wednesday, June 15, 2020. The local time is 7 a.m. This is your first expedition, first-year students. All of you have to be ready to go to the expedition and in your homeroom class by 8 a.m. with your designated group. Failure to do so will be punished. You must have enough clothes for two nights, including getting there and leaving. In your large military backpacks, some of you might have noticed three pairs of purple camo military uniforms. Those will be the required uniforms for your expedition. You may eat before you go."
The intercom ended there, and you could faintly hear the excitement from the other students in the hall.
Jareth finished his business and exited the bathroom, finding that both Henry and Damion had already changed from their green military camo to a purple military uniform.
"I didn't even know we had that," Jareth said.
"I knew, but not why," Henry said.
The two of them went to the bathroom, and just as Henry got out, there was a knock on the door. Jareth opened the door and found that Madison was standing outside of it.
"That was quick," Jareth said.
"Have to make sure my leader is ready," Madison casually said as she yawned.
"Leader?" Henry asked.
"Jareth has a head on his shoulders, unlike Damion here," the Cambion spoke while looking at Damion.
The Nephilim's eyes narrowed, but he didn't say anything.
"Well," Madison continued. "Unless we want Hannah to lead us?"
Henry shook his head, as did Damion.
"Good, congrats, Jareth," Madison said with enthusiasm like he had just won a contest. "You are in charge!"
She wrapped her arm around Jareth's neck, pulling him into the hall and down the hallway. The two boys followed as they began their expedition day.
