Chapter 403 - Research

Translator: AnubisTL

In Noren Plane No. 13, the shimmering light of spatial teleportation stabilized within Jieming's private laboratory.

Jieming exhaled softly, the exotic aromas of the grand banquet still lingering in his nostrils.

That had been no ordinary feast.

The table had been laden with a dazzling array of delicacies. Though all were conjured from nothing by alchemy, their taste, the energy they contained, and even the unique effects of certain long-extinct species were all genuine, offering a double feast for both the palate and the soul.

Jieming had even tasted a cup of nectar said to be brewed from the brain marrow essence of the "Star-Rainbow Whale," a creature lost to the river of history. Its flavor was as if he had swallowed a miniature, brilliant galaxy.

"Alchemy... truly a miracle art that makes the impossible possible," Jieming couldn't help but marvel again.

In theory, as long as one's mastery of alchemy was profound enough—and their understanding of the target's material composition, energy flow, and informational imprints sufficiently thorough—they could ignore the barriers of time and space to perfectly replicate it.

He could now barely synthesize a few simple organic compounds. The realm of replicating all creation remained separated from him by countless chasms of knowledge and technical barriers.

Beside him, Viola, Mentor Clark, and Junior Anker also returned to Noren Academy No. 13.

Grandmentor Anton Buchanan clearly had other matters to discuss after completing his advancement, but that was none of their business.

Only wizards of the seventh tier or higher had remained behind. After the banquet ended, Jieming and the others dutifully followed their mentor's departure.

With the event concluded, the group planned to go their separate ways upon returning to Noren Academy No. 13.

As before, Jieming established a connection with his Substitute Death Puppet and left his "spare body" in Mentor Clark's laboratory.

Before they parted, Mentor Clark specifically cautioned, "Pay close attention to the academy's and workshop's internal announcements in the coming days. There may be significant changes."

Jieming and the others nodded in tacit understanding.

The birth of an eighth-tier wizard might be a trifle to the wizard civilization as a whole, but for the Noren Workshop and its surrounding factions, it was no small matter.

This not only meant a leap in the top-tier combat power of Noren Workshop but would also directly impact the regional balance of power among the surrounding wizard factions centered around it, including the "Tower of Annihilation" and the "Chaos Secret Sect."

The redistribution of resources, the shifting of influence, and the subtle adjustments in cooperation and competition...

However, Jieming also knew that the wizard civilization was currently in its expansion phase, with vast external resources available. Even if changes did occur, they wouldn't be drastic. He could still peacefully conduct his research in the Purgatory Sulfur Plane.

After bidding farewell to his mentor and fellow disciples, Jieming wasted no time. He immediately activated his planar authority and returned to his main base—the Purgatory Sulfur Plane.

The familiar scent of sulfur, mixed with the faint sense of order brought by the operation of the Incense Divine Path, washed over him, calming his mind.

Back in the laboratory, Jieming immediately set to work on his backlog of tasks.

His first priority was to fulfill the delivery of the massive amount of spiritual energy Mentor Clark had previously purchased.

He entered the specially designed "spiritual energy extraction chamber" in the laboratory and activated the magical formation.

Immediately, the Incense Divine Path Network, which spanned the entire plane, rippled slightly. Purified spiritual energy, having undergone preliminary transformation, converged from all corners of the plane as if summoned.

It was further purified and compressed through a complex rune array, eventually being injected into a specialized energy storage crystal inscribed with powerful stabilization and isolation runes.

Because Mentor Clark required such a vast quantity, it took Jieming nearly half a day to complete the preparation of the Condensed Spiritual Energy, valued at ten thousand high-tier military merit.

After carefully sealing the product, he sent it to Mentor Clark's laboratory via an interdimensional teleportation array.

Checking the plane's spiritual energy reserves on a nearby monitor, Jieming couldn't help but grin wildly.

If I can sell all this spiritual energy, he thought, I might even be able to scrape together enough for another Substitute Death Puppet.

Of course, Jieming knew this was pure fantasy. At least until he made a name for himself among high-rank wizards, his biggest customers for spiritual energy would likely be his fellow disciples from Noren Workshop.

Next, he opened his magic net terminal, which was nearly overflowing with messages.

The first thing he dealt with was Black's relentless barrage of "Where's my stuff?" messages.

Jieming wondered where Black kept finding all these customers. The man's demand for liquid adamantine seemed bottomless.

Before leaving this time, Jieming had already prepared an ample supply of liquid adamantine based on Black's previous consumption rate. Yet, Black had been messaging him to hurry up the delivery since last month.

Looking at the urgent requests, Jieming smiled helplessly.

At this rate, he thought, the annual income from selling liquid adamantine alone will soon rival the revenue from the "Self-Stabilizing Field Regulation Protocol" technology.

This meant the demand for liquid adamantine would skyrocket. Fortunately, producing it had become second nature to him.

He went to the Automated Alchemy Factory District, adjusted the parameters, and fed in the resources. Soon, a batch of liquid metal shimmering with flowing golden light was produced. After carefully packaging it, he immediately shipped it off to Black.

Then, he saw a cautiously worded inquiry from Dean Avery Knight.

It seemed the news of Grandmentor Anton Buchanan's impending advancement was no longer a secret among the upper echelons.

Jieming saw no need to hide the truth and replied with a concise message: "Dean Knight, Grandmentor Anton Buchanan successfully advanced to the eighth-tier wizard the other day."

After sending the message, Jieming ignored any further replies from Dean Avery Knight and continued processing the various incoming messages on his terminal.

Once he had dealt with these tedious yet necessary external affairs, Jieming let out a long sigh of relief.

Instead of resting, he reviewed the daily research reports submitted by the Black Giant Priests and then walked straight to the area deep within the laboratory dedicated to spatial wizardry research and testing.

The exchange in Noren Plane No. 1, observing the fluctuations of the laws during the Grandmentor's advancement, and the reflections after fighting Rex and the others had all sparked numerous new flashes of inspiration in his mind.

In particular, he had developed some vague but highly promising ideas regarding the synergistic application of Phase Shift and Spatial Stabilization, as well as how to more deeply integrate the "spatial stability" property of the mutant spider snake's crystal carapace into his own combat system.

"First... I should buy some more core knowledge..."

With this thought, Jieming opened the high-tier military merit shopping catalog on his magic net terminal.

Decades passed in a quiet blur.

In the core laboratory of the Purgatory Sulfur Plane, Jieming stood before an experimental table covered in precise runes and energy conduits, his expression intensely focused as he performed a biological construct surgery.

Several Black Giant Priests served as assistants, silently and efficiently passing tools and recording data.

Just as he was carefully embedding a miniaturized energy core into the body of the strange creature on the operating table, his movements suddenly paused, and a momentary daze crossed his eyes.

"Sovereign?" a nearby Black Giant Priest, keenly sensing his anomaly, inquired through a low-frequency mental transmission.

Jieming snapped back to his senses instantly and waved his hand, signaling that he was fine.

But inside, he was far from the calm he projected.

For in that fleeting moment, it felt as if an invisible barrier within his spiritual sea had been silently pierced.

A more condensed mental power, like a river bursting its banks, flowed naturally and smoothly into his soul.

There was no earth-shattering energy eruption, no anomalous phenomena drawn from the external laws of the universe, and not even the energy monitoring instruments in the laboratory captured any significant fluctuations.
