He could still fight. Physically, he wasn't finished yet. Mentally, he stood right at the edge of the drop. This was the moment. Live or die, decided now.
"...Whatever happens, I'll face it." His voice came out raw, but steady.
The screen glitched violently, static warnings strobing before bleeding into solid violet.

Aron dragged air into his burning lungs and forced himself upright. Whatever this power was, it felt too big for him—and it had answered anyway, arriving at the exact second he needed it most.
Every nerve in his body burned. His heart hammered against his ribs. A sharp pressure drilled behind his eyes.
The black energy coiled around his frame tightened, wrapping tighter around muscle and bone, like his own resolve had found a physical shape.
He had no idea what it was doing to him. He only knew that, for the first time, his body was answering something deeper than thought.
The King Knight didn't hesitate. It read the threat instantly, raising its blade to dead center, point aimed straight at Aron's throat. No mistaking the message.
Zekai still hadn't moved. Slumped against the shattered pillar behind him, breath shallow, utterly unaware of the sword now leveled inches from where he lay. One more second of hesitation, and it wouldn't matter who won this fight — there'd be nothing left standing behind Aron to protect.
*Come. Let's see which of us gets erased.*
"...Fine." Aron's knuckles whitened around the hilt. "Come on, then."
BOOM.
He moved—faster than a human body should allow, dark energy trailing off him like smoke off a fuse. His blade cut across the air in a brutal diagonal, aimed straight for the helmet, and in the same instant the Knight thrust forward with surgical precision, aimed dead for his heart.
He lunged. It thrust.
Aron's body moved before the thought reached him.
CLANG—
Steel met steel in a shower of sparks. Aron twisted his blade sideways at the last possible fraction of a second, deflecting the thrust off his ribs by inches. The weapons broke apart.
The impact rattled through his forearms and nearly tore the sword from his hands.
His blade slipped under the recoil, but he locked his stance through it, planted his feet, and drove every last scrap of energy he had left into the follow-through.
"Take this—Guardian's Fang!"
BAAAAM—
The skill hit, multiplying the weight of the blow tenfold. The impact tore through the clash and ripped the Knight's sword clean out of its grip, sending it spinning across the hall to bury itself in the concrete.
"How's that for clean?"
He didn't give it a second to recover. He was already moving, closing the gap, cutting a flurry of strikes across its abdomen before it could reset—one slash, then another crossing it, blade blurring too fast to track.
Nothing. The steel connected and skated off the armor without breaking through.
'I don't know what I'm doing,' Aron thought, vision narrowing to a tunnel. 'I just know I can't stop moving.'
'If I stop, I die.'
The Knight paused. Then its whole presence changed—the passive aura burning off, replaced by something suffocating enough to make the air itself vibrate. It opened its gauntlet. Black smoke poured into the palm and solidified into a second blade, and it came at him like a meteor with no intention of slowing down.
"Come on—this is exactly what I wanted!"
Too fast. Too clean.
Aron didn't retreat a single step.
The first cut missed his throat by a hair. The second dropped like an executioner's blade—he caught it, redirected it, broke its rhythm, and closed the distance instead of running from it.
The Knight's attacks sharpened, faster now, wilder, a storm of steel cutting the air into ribbons around him.
Aron locked his focus on the smallest movements in the armor—the tell before the strike.
"But I'm not who you think I am." His voice barely carried over the clash of metal. "You've killed plenty of people before me. I'm not one of them anymore."
He stepped straight into the eye of the storm. Every instinct screamed that this was wrong, that he was walking his own neck onto the block—but some new part of him knew exactly where to put his feet.

'I don't care what the screen says.' After everything this place had already put him through, a warning light meant nothing.
'I remember every death. Even the ones that haven't happened to me yet.'
Every mistake. Every failed dodge. Every moment he had chosen wrong. None of it was gone.
His hands shook, but they didn't stop moving. His foot caught on broken stone, the blade grazing past his shoulder and tearing through fabric, his balance breaking for one fatal half-second.
He forced his weight back down before it could cost him.
"That version of me already died."
He drove into the center of the storm and swung, one clean motion, no hesitation behind it. The strike cracked the Knight's rhythm wide open.
Aron closed the last inch, slipped past its guard, and buried his sword straight through its throat.
"Take back what you gave me."
The impact drove the Knight down hard, its massive frame buckling like the strike had shattered its stance from the inside out. The blade punched through the neck guard, tearing past the dense magical resistance woven into the armor.
The King Knight stopped.
