Chapter 67 - Chapter 67: Fierce Battle

Furan tightened her grip on the ring and slowly probed her Spiritual Power into it.

This is terrible. Why did I run into someone from the Modification School right after finishing the steam engine?

Her mind began to race: Harbos might not be in the Academy Head's office right now, and she had no idea where her mentor would be. If she had to run, her only option was the Emerald Heart Bar in the Apprentice Market.

Elan is, after all, the person in charge of a district. Surely the Modification School would show the Union some respect?

But that was only an option if she could escape. She didn't know what strange methods a Formal Mage might possess, so she could only... She tightened her grip on the ring again.

She knew this ring was just like the one she had encountered before that used instant-cast spells; it was inscribed with a high-tier Spell.

This was one of Harbos's masterpieces. To inscribe a high-tier Spell onto a ring required skill that was absolutely beyond that of ordinary people.

Harbos had said she could barely use it, but she had no idea what Spell was inside... If the opponent forcibly attacked, she would have no choice but to activate the Spell within.

Of course, that was the worst-case scenario. If the other party could communicate with her... Beloli looked at Furan, who had suddenly stopped, feeling curious about why someone was out so late at night.

She instinctively used [Perception] to probe the other person, something she had been doing frequently these past few days.

Hmm... Very skilled in refining potions, and possessing some achievement in enchanting weapons... These were the first two prominent skills she noticed.

Knows more than three Spells, with a high degree of mastery in one of them.

She actually knows a set of swordsmanship, uses a Breathing Technique with great ease, and has strong physical fitness.

Beloli frowned. If these traits appeared individually on someone, she could understand it.

But why did so many skills appear on a single apprentice?

Many First-Order Mages might never become as versatile as the apprentice before her eyes even by the time they died.

However, this didn't seem to relate to her goal. The prophecy she received was very clear: the target does not know a complete set of swordsmanship—in fact, they don't know any at all.

If the target were currently learning, the information obtained should have been that the target is learning swordsmanship or has mastered a portion of it.

A complete set of swordsmanship contains many components; practicing just a few of the Combat Skills within it would take half a year, and even then, one might not necessarily learn them all.

Therefore, Beloli immediately ruled out the possibility of this apprentice being the target. It was impossible for the target to master a set of swordsmanship from scratch in less than two months.

"Apprentice, why have you stopped?" Beloli still had some doubts about Furan's sudden halt.

"My apologies, respected Formal Mage. Seeing you has left me somewhat at a loss."

Furan reacted quickly and straightened her body. The other party didn't seem to have any hostile intent, so she hurried to express her respect for a Formal Mage.

This tactic was very effective. As a Formal Mage, Beloli was used to the flattery of apprentices, which made her stop caring about Furan's behavior just now. Instead, she said:

"Apprentice, do you wish to join a School?"

She saw that Furan wasn't wearing any apprentice identifiers, and all School members were strictly required to wear them at all times after joining.

Since Furan didn't have one, she mistakenly thought she hadn't joined a School.

"Forgive me, Excellency, I have already joined a School. It is..." Just as Furan was about to say the name of her School, Beloli interrupted her sternly.

"There is no need to bring shame to your School! Apprentice, you seem to have forgotten the School regulations. Why are you not wearing your identifier?!"

"My apologies, Excellency. I forgot it due to some urgent matters."

Clearly, as the Furnace Casting School was newly established, although Harbos had specially designed their School's identifier at the beginning...

He hadn't prepared one before inducting Furan into the School tonight, so naturally, he hadn't given her an identifier.

Although Furan wasn't sure if such a rule existed, it didn't stop her from using her experience from her previous life to just admit fault and be done with it.

Right now, all she wanted was to get away from the person in front of her and run to a safe place.

Beloli didn't say anything more but slowly walked behind Furan, while Furan remained in place without moving.

This was a form of etiquette when an apprentice met a Formal Mage. After they met, the apprentice could only move after the Formal Mage had walked behind them.

Furan had seen many apprentices perform this etiquette, so she followed suit now, trying her best not to attract Beloli's attention.

Once Beloli disappeared from Furan's field of vision and her footsteps echoed behind her, Furan breathed a sigh of relief as if she had been granted a great amnesty.

As Beloli walked past Furan, she was still wondering which School this apprentice belonged to.

Given this apprentice's level, she should have started preparing to advance to a Formal Mage long ago. Why did I see no trace of sublimation on her?

And based on this apprentice's style, she should be from the Sword Chant School. With her skill level, she should have won a top-three spot in the Assessment without any suspense, so why haven't I heard of her?

Wait... the Sword Chant School!

Beloli's mind clicked. She remembered that when she perceived Furan just now, there was a faint red light on her—that was the spirituality of [Plunder]!

"Apprentice, come with me!"

She slowly turned her head, but the response she got was a sword plunging into her chest like a cannonball, while another sword curved through the air, stabbing toward her.

Beloli frowned slightly. she hadn't expected an apprentice to dare defy her orders. She looked down at the short sword that had sunk halfway in and said in a deep voice:

"Apprentice, you are somewhat underestimating a Formal Mage!"

As she spoke, she didn't close her mouth but instead opened it wide. An invisible sound wave erupted from her body, and Furan felt a massive force in the air pushing her in the opposite direction.

The short sword in Beloli's chest was sent flying out by the sound wave.

Using Elven Swordsmanship, Furan overcame this force in mid-air and skillfully swung her sword down hard.

Beloli seemingly didn't expect Furan to be able to resist the attack and continue flying toward her. The [Weight] rune on the longsword lit up, causing the sword to embed itself into Beloli's shoulder like a heavy axe.

"Very well, apprentice!" Furan looked up to see Beloli's angry eyes. It seemed she had completely infuriated her.

Furan looked on with some helplessness as the longsword only cut about ten centimeters deep. Wasn't it said that mages had fragile bodies? How could this move, which should have split a person in half, only cut such a small distance?

At this point, she had no choice but to use the ring.

The ring she held tightly in her left hand emitted a red light. Furan felt as if her Spiritual Power was about to be drained dry; she had never been this sleepy in her life.

But Furan knew she had to pull herself together at this moment. Just as she barely managed to focus, she heard a scream ring out.

"No, stop!"
