In Harbos's view, for Furan to be able to create such a thing, she must have spent a great deal of time and energy on it.
And for those apprentices, isn't spending so much time and energy all for the sake of joining a School and gaining the opportunity to become a Formal Mage?
Harbos even went out of his way to give Furan one of his masterpieces, a ring capable of releasing high-tier Spells, to show how much he valued her.
"This is a ring that can release high-tier Spells. With your Spiritual Power, you should barely be able to activate it."
Furan hesitated for a moment when she saw Harbos handing over the ring, but she still accepted it.
What mattered now was that she had to take action against the pursuit from the Modification School, which could arrive at any moment; accepting the proposal to join the School was her best choice.
Her plan to search for a suitable School was proving difficult to continue; up until now, the information she had gathered was almost the same as it had been at the start of the School year.
The Formal Mages who might appear from the Modification School were like a sword hanging over her head. She had no confidence in facing a Formal Mage herself, so accepting was her best option.
Furan took the ring and examined it in her hand for a few moments. It had a massive red gemstone and a wide band; it was another ring that was too large for her finger.
Harbos saw Furan's hesitation and asked curiously,
"Do you have some concerns? You seem hesitant even about joining the School."
Furan thought for a moment and didn't answer immediately. At a time like this, she certainly couldn't say she wanted to see which School's Spells were stronger before joining.
"I want... to be able to learn more Spells, not just those within a single School... so I've been considering which School would allow me to learn the most Spells."
Harbos was somewhat surprised. She wanted to learn Spells outside of her own School?
For a normal apprentice, this was somewhat 'rebellious.' Normal Schools would require their apprentices to be 'loyal' to them.
Powerful Spells were basically controlled by the various Schools; if one wanted to learn them, it seemed the only way was to join a School.
Those who hid their identities to join multiple Schools were often discovered and then collectively blacklisted and hunted by all the Schools.
However, this was the art of conversation. Furan had specifically added in her last sentence that she wanted to see which School allowed her to learn the most Spells, indicating she was merely interested in Spells rather than wanting to jump between several Schools.
Harbos pondered for a moment before speaking:
"Are you sure you want to learn more 'Spells'?"
Harbos greatly admired Furan. He felt that with Furan's talent, becoming a Third-Tier or Fourth-Tier Mage was only a matter of time.
But wanting to learn more Spells... he had thought of this reason when he was young, and many young people had thought the same: if I could learn the Spells of other Schools, I would surely use them better than those people.
However, the Schools guarded their Spell knowledge very vigilantly; even members who joined the School had to make contributions to obtain Spells.
"Yes," Furan said, the corners of her mouth curling up slightly. Was there a turn of events?
"If what you want to learn are first and second-tier Spells, then it's possible... but first, you must become a Formal Mage."
Harbos decided to give Furan a chance. He knew of a place where one could indeed learn first and second-tier Spells freely.
However, he wasn't actually optimistic about the final result of Furan learning so many Spells. The Spells within each School were already sufficient for any mage.
By mastering existing Spells well, one could naturally advance to higher tiers.
Higher-tier Spells were far more powerful than low-tier spells; there was no point in learning so many low-tier Spells.
Moreover, those Spells were not easily learned. Although Furan's ability to release a first-tier Spell as an apprentice was enough to prove her high magical talent,
Every Spell could not be equated in that way. After all, the required knowledge was different, and one couldn't be certain of mastering other types of knowledge.
"Thank you... Mentor." Furan thought about the title for a moment and decided to address him as Mentor.
This indicated that she had joined the Furnace Casting School.
Harbos smiled. Furan's decision was also beneficial to him; he had already planned what to do next.
He had gained a lot of inspiration from Furan and needed some time to research Spells.
He would first research the Furnace Casting School's version of the method to allow Furan to advance to a Formal Mage. Then, after Furan advanced, he would leave Apprentice City to do research work for a while.
After summarizing the advancement method, hadn't that Edict School been wanting to trade with him? He would simply hand over the task of training more mages to them.
As for Furan, he would send her to that place to learn some Spells she might be able to master.
When Furan finally realized she shouldn't waste her time and energy on those useless Spells, he could then begin teaching her the high-tier Spells he had researched.
After teaching Furan to become a Third-Tier Mage, his School would basically take shape and could be called a complete School.
I was still worrying about how to develop the School yesterday, but now I can see its glorious future with my own eyes, Harbos thought happily.
"Learning this Spell must have exhausted you. Tomorrow, come to the Academy Head's office at Cuilan Academy to find me. I will give you the advancement method for a Formal Mage then."
"Alright... thank you, Mentor."
Although she didn't know why she had to go to the Academy Head's office at Cuilan Academy, she figured that since Harbos's tier was quite high, it was reasonable for the Academy Head to try and curry favor with him.
This time, not only did she gain a shield to prevent the Modification School from making things difficult for her, but she also resolved the indecision she had always felt regarding choosing a School.
This greatly improved her mood, and a smile appeared on her face.
After watching Harbos leave, she had no intention of resting at all.
She had just drunk an energy potion. Although she had released the Appliance Enchantment Spell twice, she was still very energetic, and her Spiritual Power hadn't been depleted much.
She looked at a box full of scrap in the room; these were leftover materials from when she made the steam engine.
"I'll throw the trash out first."
She hadn't gone out for several days, so a large pile of trash had naturally accumulated. She was very energetic now but didn't want to continue practicing Spells, so she decided to head out.
She held the ring in her hand, picked up the box, and walked out the door.
After she threw the box at the designated trash collection point, she encountered someone she hadn't wanted to meet until now.
That person wore a black robe with the insignia of the Modification School on it. According to Furan's knowledge, someone who could have a School insignia on their robe was a Formal Mage of that School.
Beloli also shifted her gaze from a piece of paper in her hand toward her. On the paper in her hand, only a few names remained uncrossed.
