Four Super Soldiers stood expressionless, their eyes as cold as those of reptiles. Tony felt as if he were being stared down by four cobras, imagining their slick scales and the dry rustle of their forked tongues.
A shiver ran through Tony inside his battle armor.
"Don't give me that look. Your girlfriends—or... mothers—aren't on my list of conquests."
*Thump! Thump!*
His taunt was met with two dull, heavy punches.
The four Super Soldiers split into pairs and charged at Tony and Qin Xiao.
Qin Xiao, eager to gauge the gap between himself and the Super Soldiers, held back most of his strength and began a tactical dance with two of them, exchanging jabs and kicks.
Tony's earlier wisecrack had earned him a swift punch from each of his two attackers, sending him staggering back several steps.
Now, with thruster flames erupting, he was about to clash head-on with them.
Qin Xiao shouted from the side:
"Secure the target first! I'll handle these four!"
Hearing Qin Xiao's words, Tony's battle armor arms whirred as he shot upward at an angle, accelerating straight into the facility.
The two Super Soldiers were about to give chase, but Qin Xiao took two hits to the back as he grabbed the waistbands of the two leading Super Soldiers, one in each hand.
"Come back here!"
He slammed the two Super Soldiers violently to the ground, then spun around to engage the remaining Super Soldiers in combat.
Meanwhile, Tony had already accelerated past Qin Xiao and the others, streaking down a corridor.
As he reached the end of the corridor, the last remaining female Super Soldier emerged gracefully from a room.
She closed the door behind her and beckoned Tony over with a contemptuous flick of her finger.
Tony had no time for chivalry. He raised his palm and fired a laser blast.
The female Super Soldier dodged sideways, but the blast tore a gaping hole through the door behind her.
"Ivan Vanko!" Tony exclaimed, his tone dripping with "I knew you'd be here."
Ivan Vanko looked up and offered Tony a smile full of hidden meaning.
Lowering his head, Tony continued typing on his keyboard.
In the hall outside, the eyes of the battle armors lit up with white light, one after another.
Tony had no interest in fighting this woman. He wanted to accelerate past her and grab Ivan Vanko inside, just as he'd tried earlier.
Unfortunately, the corridor was too narrow and low, barely wide enough for two or three people to walk side-by-side.
The moment Tony accelerated, the female super-soldier leaped up, kicked off the wall, and grabbed the battle armor's legs.
Taking advantage of Tony's initial momentum, she slammed his entire battle armor to the ground.
The battle armor crashed to the floor with a thunderous crash. The female super-soldier immediately stepped forward and stomped down hard on Tony, who was still on the ground.
Flames erupted from all of Tony's thrusters, propelling him backward several meters before lifting him into the air.
Floating mid-air, he declared, "Alright, you've made me angry. Since you're a woman, I'll refrain from punching you in the face!"
Before he could attack, a whistling sound ripped through the air behind him.
Tony instinctively glanced back and saw at least a dozen battle armors, significantly taller than his own, roaring as they charged inward.
Turning his attention to Qin Xiao's side, he noticed that the Super Soldiers' strength and speed weren't as formidable as he'd expected, feeling slightly weaker than when he first encountered them.
He wondered if this was due to their serum absorption rate or if their prolonged frozen state in Siberia had prevented them from fully recovering their abilities.
After enduring numerous punches and kicks, he had a good grasp of their capabilities.
Just as Qin Xiao prepared to unleash his full power and end the battle swiftly, he heard the distinctive whirring sound of Gatling gun barrels rotating.
Qin Xiao was quite familiar with this sound—he'd even handled such weapons in Mexico.
Whether firing or stopping, there was always a momentary whirring sound as the barrels spun up.
Before his brain could fully process what was happening, and before his body could even turn to see what was going on...
*Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat!*
A dense hail of bullets erupted, filling the air.
In an instant, Qin Xiao felt every inch of his back being riddled with bullets.
*Heaven knows how many firearms were firing simultaneously to create this effect.*
Qin Xiao watched helplessly as the Super Soldier beside him had his skin and muscles torn apart, bit by bit, by the barrage of bullets. The man collapsed to the ground, his entire body a bloody mess.
Three other Super Soldiers stood ahead of Qin Xiao and his comrade, using the two as cover. After enduring the initial volley of gunfire, they dodged to the sides. Though their bodies were riddled with wounds, they completely avoided the bullet-swept zone.
Qin Xiao strode forward several steps, only to feel sharp stings across every exposed inch of his body. The back of his head throbbed as if countless iron fingers had flicked it, leaving him dazed.
"How many bullets did you hit my back with?!"
As if to punctuate his question, the Gatling gun on the right arm of a battle armor fired twice more, expending its last two rounds. The bullets struck Qin Xiao's skull squarely, sending his head bobbing forward twice like a chick pecking at rice.
Fortunately, the weapons in these battle armors used small magazines, not yet modified to hold massive ammunition. Otherwise, Qin Xiao would have been gunned down for at least two minutes straight.
"Finished? My turn!"
Qin Xiao heard the Gatling gun barrel whirring and whipped around.
Behind him, the battle armors that had been standing against the wall began to move forward, forming a line. At least a dozen of them stepped out.
*These must have been the ones shooting at me earlier.*
As Qin Xiao turned, the dozen armors simultaneously stepped back, while another dozen advanced, their right arms' Gatling barrels slowly rotating.
"They're coming again? Let's see who's faster!"
Qin Xiao slammed his left foot down, shattering the ground beneath him. He shot forward like a cannonball toward the advancing line of armors.
Meanwhile, Tony was caught in a whirlwind of battle armors roaring through the narrow corridor. Not only Tony, but even the female Super Soldier was caught off guard. The two were scattered by the onslaught.
In the chaos, Tony saw one armor blast through the ceiling and soar skyward. Another followed closely, scooping up Ivan Vanko—who was clutching the synthesized laptop—and rocketed after the first through the hole.
"No!" Tony shouted, trying to shake off the armors surrounding him.
Suddenly, all the armors around him flashed red, their chests emitting piercing alarms.
