"Just got a call from Rhode. Hammer is currently installing weapons on his new armor at the airbase. As soon as we spot Ivan Vanko, Rhode will take him down."
When Qin Xiao and Tony returned, Tony had a long talk with Rhode. The result was that Rhode, representing the military, received a suit of armor, and the Illuminati's roster gained a new member: War Machine.
"Everything's ready. How about you two? Are you ready, heroes?" Black Widow's voice drifted through the earpiece.
"Absolutely!" Tony replied confidently.
Qin Xiao turned to glance behind him, nodded, and said, "Let's do it!"
"Action!"
Black Widow gently tapped the clapperboard on the table.
*Boom!*
The moment Black Widow finished speaking, the thrusters on Tony's Armor fired at full power, slamming into Qin Xiao's abdomen and smashing through the rooftop railing as they launched both of them into the air.
"Tony, you bastard! I wasn't ready!" Qin Xiao roared at Tony from mid-air.
"The director already yelled 'Action'! You need to learn what 'professional' means, my friend. We're enemies now!" Tony retorted, grabbing Qin Xiao's arm. With a mid-air spin, he used the momentum to slam Qin Xiao face-first toward the ground.
*Crash!*
Visible cracks spiderwebbed across the pavement at the Hammer Building's entrance.
"Hmm? He didn't hit the ground?" Tony's Armor hovered above Qin Xiao, leaving a trail of flame.
The thrusters on both hands flashed with blinding white light.
Two laser cannons unleashed a barrage of energy blasts straight down at Qin Xiao.
"Damn it, Tony, you bastard! This wasn't in the script!"
Qin Xiao didn't dare shout loudly, only muttering under his breath. He rolled to the side to dodge the laser cannon and sprinted into the Hammer Building.
Without a word, Tony piloted his armor to smash through the glass doors and charge inside.
The moment he entered, a whoosh of air came from the side. Qin Xiao grabbed a coffee table with both hands and slammed it horizontally at Tony.
*Crash!*
Glass shattered across the floor, and Tony was sent crashing hard against the wall.
"Improvising on the fly, you're a quick learner!" Tony grumbled through the comms.
The armor's visor displayed a line of dialogue. Tony glanced at it and read it out in a strained, wrinkled voice:
"Qin, I considered you my most trusted friend. How could you even talk about business partnerships with that clown, Justin Hammer? Don't you know I despise that pretentious bastard more than anything?"
Behind the line, notes indicated a feeling of betrayal by a friend, a mix of sadness and anger, with a tone of frustration and helplessness.
After all those lengthy annotations, Tony delivered his lines with the flat, uninspired tone of plain water.
A sigh came through Black Widow's earpiece.
Qin Xiao watched as Tony stood rooted to the spot, pointing at him, and then *crash!* he threw down the coffee table, leaving only its frame.
"That was just a business deal, nothing personal. And we haven't even signed the contract yet. Is this your excuse for throwing me from the roof? I really want to kick your..."
"Ah!!!!!!"
Qin Xiao's sentence was cut short as a girl who looked like she worked at the front desk screamed, clutching her head and scrambling through the shattered glass between them.
"...kick your ass, Tony!" Qin Xiao finished his line after the girl had fled.
Back at the base, Black Widow, who was hacking into Hammer Industries' surveillance systems and watching the scene unfold, buried her face in her hands in despair.
"Kick my ass? I'm Iron Man! Do you think my armor is as easy to defeat as those Hammer Industries pieces of junk?"
Tony dryly delivered his lines again.
Then...
*Tick-tock, tick-tock!*
The ticking of the wall clock's second hand echoed between them.
*Whoosh!* A draft swept through the room, lifting several files and sending them drifting between the two men.
"Seems like it's your turn?" Tony's voice crackled in their earpieces.
"You changed the lines, Tony. I don't know how to respond. That last bit you added wasn't in the script," Qin Xiao whispered into his earpiece.
"Gentlemen! Our lines were meant to make the fight sound convincing. The entire first floor is empty—stop acting and just break through!" Black Widow hissed through gritted teeth, wanting to slap herself for this disastrous decision. *This is the most embarrassing moment of my career!*
Deep within the underground laboratory, the vibrations from above immediately put the personnel on high alert.
Five of the super soldiers remained to watch Ivan Vanko at work, leaving the remaining four to join a group of guards Hammer had summoned from outside. They stationed themselves at the elevator entrance, their eyes fixed on the doors.
Unbeknownst to them, the moment they left, Ivan Vanko glanced at the female super soldier at the door with a smile. His computer screen swiftly switched to a new interface, and his fingers began flying across the keyboard.
At the elevator entrance:
*Boom!* The elevator plummeted down at an abnormal speed, sending a cloud of dust billowing from the doors.
*Whoosh!*
The guards raised their weapons in unison, aiming at the elevator entrance.
*Bang!* The elevator doors were violently blasted open, and a figure of gold and red charged into the crowd, propelled by the momentum of the doors.
*Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat!*
A group of guards instinctively opened fire, but the impact of Tony's Armor, combined with the force of the doors, sent them flying before they could fire more than a few shots.
Before they could react, the ceiling above them exploded with another thunderous crash.
Qin Xiao plummeted from above, and the two of them charged into the group of guards like wolves into a flock of sheep. In just a few collisions, they sent the guards sprawling in disarray, unable to get back on their feet for quite some time.
Hundreds of fully assembled battle suits were densely packed around the underground research facility.
Tony recognized these as the suits jointly developed by Justin Hammer and the military. He even had detailed information about them.
As individual combat armor, they were decent in all aspects, but they lacked power, only able to perform simple movements after charging.
However, some of the suits had a faint blue glow emanating from their chests.
"Arc Reactor!"
Tony and Qin Xiao exchanged a look.
They had found the right place.
Just as they were about to search for Ivan Vanko inside, four expressionless, dead-eyed, muscular men in combat boots, camouflage pants, and only tank tops appeared before them.
