Chen Ye took the Sling Ring and examined it closely. A thrill ran through him; he hadn't expected the portal skill to be so easy to trick out of her.
"I'm not one to care about rewards. For the sake of cosmic peace, I'll shoulder this responsibility without hesitation."
"Always ready to fight for the... for the peace of the universe!" Chen Ye declared with fiery conviction, nearly slipping up.
A hint of exasperation flickered across the Ancient One's usually impassive expression. *Is it really wise to entrust such a crucial mission to this guy?*
"But I seem to recall portals can't directly transport me to parallel universes, right?" Chen Ye asked earnestly, his memory offering no such capability.
Many believe the three Spider-Men in *No Way Home* were pulled from parallel universes by that little guy with the portal. That's not the case.
They were all summoned through temporal rifts.
The Ancient One nodded beside him. "That's correct. I never claimed portals could send you to parallel universes. But since it's an adjacent universe, I can locate a temporal rift and send you through."
Gu Yi had a way to send Chen Ye there. After all, having lived in this world for so long, she had learned virtually every magical art, both conventional and unconventional.
There was no magic she didn't know; the only question was whether she wanted to use it.
Chen Ye suddenly understood. *Truly, the older the ginger, the spicier the spice.* He longed to become her family, to freely absorb all her magic.
Just then, the Ancient One suddenly asked, "Chen Ye, do you know why temporal rifts exist in the universe?"
Chen Ye was taken aback. He had never considered this question before, but now that the Ancient One had raised it, he couldn't help but be curious.
"The universe contains countless parallel universes, adjacent to each other but normally isolated. However, there are exceptions, like this time. When a variable is introduced, it creates a butterfly effect, forming temporal rifts that connect these parallel universes," the Ancient One explained.
Chen Ye listened, half-understanding. In his previous life, he would have simply assumed Marvel was trying to make money but was too lazy to come up with a new plot, so they just threw in parallel universes.
"Alright, Ancient One. Then how do I return after completing the mission?" Chen Ye was still primarily concerned about his safety.
The Ancient One seemed to have anticipated Chen Ye's question. She spoke slowly, "I've enchanted your Sling Ring. You can use it to return here."
"But it only works once. When you need to go again, come find me, and I'll re-enchant it for you."
The Ancient One used this method to encourage Chen Ye to report his progress proactively.
"Understood. No problem. I'm definitely helping you with this."
"More than that, I'd like to be friends with you, Ancient One. Friends help each other, after all. I hope you don't mind having me as a friend." Chen Ye suddenly became genuinely sincere.
Hearing this, a faint smile appeared on the Ancient One's calm face. After all these years, she hadn't expected anyone to suggest becoming her friend.
"You're interesting," she replied, avoiding a direct answer but subtly conveying her interest.
But Chen Ye already had his answer from the System notification:
Congratulations, Host! You have successfully added the Ancient One as a friend.
Congratulations, Host! You have acquired the attribute: Portal
Merge immediately?
"Fuse immediately!" Chen Ye thought to himself. In an instant, a flood of knowledge and experience about portals surged into his mind. He felt as if he had already mastered the art of using them.
Suddenly, it felt as though he had been practicing using portals for two and a half years.
Chen Ye hadn't expected the System to be so thoughtful. He had been wondering how long it would take to learn how to use portals.
Now, with the System's help, he could already use them with practiced ease.
As Chen Ye was communicating with the System, the Ancient One had already dispelled the Mirror Dimension.
"Now, you may bring down the guest from the parallel universe. It's time for me to send him back," the Ancient One said slowly.
Hearing this, Chen Ye hurried upstairs to find Miles, who still didn't know how to return to his own universe.
A few minutes later, Chen Ye led a bewildered Miles down the stairs to where the Ancient One stood.
Turning to Miles, he introduced, "This is the Ancient One, who will send you home."
Miles nodded respectfully to the Ancient One. "Hello, Ancient One. My name is Miles."
Miles's emotions were complex. The past few days in this strange world had stirred up a whirlwind of feelings within him.
He had once thought he would never return to his own universe, never see his parents again.
But now, Chen Ye had suddenly appeared and told him someone could send him home. This left Miles both excited and worried.
He feared another disappointment, yet his heart was filled with anticipation and thrill.
"You are very brave, child. Don't worry, you'll be home soon," Gu Yi said, looking at Miles with a kind gaze. After all, he had prevented a universal crisis at such a young age.
Gu Yi knew that this child, as a hero who shouldn't exist, would face many more calamities in the future.
"Child, do you know how special you are?" Gu Yi finally relented and gave him a hint.
Miles looked at her in confusion, then pondered for a moment. "Maybe because I'm Black?"
Gu Yi shook her head. "Child, do you know that in almost every universe, there is only one Spider-Man? And every Spider-Man experiences the pain of losing a loved one. Yet your parents are still alive. Do you know what that means? This is an inevitable outcome."
Chen Ye nodded unconsciously beside them. Heaven knows how many times Uncle Ben had died. The combined graves of Uncle Ben from across the multiverse could probably circle the Earth.
After hearing Gu Yi's words, Miles pondered for a moment. "So... my parents will be in danger?"
The Ancient One continued to shake her head. "Your parents will be fine, but you must be careful. Now, it's time for you to go home."
The Ancient One seemed to have glimpsed Miles's future, but as she said, some things were inevitable outcomes.
Then, with a gentle wave of her hand, the Ancient One released a mysterious force from her palm, enveloping Miles.
Miles's body began to undergo a wondrous transformation. His skin gradually became transparent, as if merging into the surrounding air.
Feeling his body change, Miles waved goodbye to Chen Ye.
"Thank you, Chen Ye. You must visit my universe sometime—I'll treat you to a meal. Thank you, Ancient One."
As his words faded, Miles's figure gradually vanished, ultimately transforming into a beam of light that dissipated into the air.
Once Miles had completely disappeared, Chen Ye turned to the Ancient One and asked curiously, "What if Peter Parker had never become Spider-Man?"
