Chapter 88 - The Weapon X Project

After defeating Apocalypse, Han Shaoqing eliminated a potential threat. However, the atomic blast caused a significant disturbance, triggering a minor earthquake in Cairo.

Fortunately, the event was swift, and the damage—both human and economic—was minimal.

Compared to Apocalypse's later city-destroying pyramid construction or Magneto's near-regression of modern society, these losses were negligible.

But not everyone saw it that way.

Not everyone possessed Han Shaoqing's "God's-eye view."

A person's perspective is often shaped by their vantage point.

To those with ulterior motives, this was clearly a Mutant attack.

Though Han Shaoqing wasn't a Mutant, some people don't care what you think—they only care what *they* think.

Once people fixate on an idea, they can become stubbornly entrenched.

Take William Stryker, for example. He was the son of high-ranking CIA agent Stryker and had just graduated into the military.

During the earlier Pentagon incident, Han Shaoqing had forcefully demanded answers from the senators.

Among the eight deceased was Stryker.

The murder of his father fueled William Stryker's hatred for Mutants.

He possessed considerable talent, and working alongside Bolivar Trask had only strengthened his resolve to combat Mutants.

Bolivar Trask, the 36-year-old founder of Trask Industries, was a short and unremarkable man, but a visionary scientist. While researching the mysteries of human DNA, he discovered the X-Gene.

Believing Mutants to be a threat to humanity, he dedicated himself to creating Sentinel Robots, intending to eradicate all Mutants and secure humanity's dominance.

At a secret base in North America, William Stryker presented his concerns to Bolivar Trask: "According to your research, Doctor, the Sentinel Robots require Mystique's genes to achieve their full potential. But we've lost track of her, and with Magneto's ability to control magnetic fields, our steel robots would be reduced to scrap metal in his presence."

"William, I understand your feelings. I share your hatred of Mutants. But science progresses step by step. Every great endeavor must begin with a single step."

"The Sentinel Robots were developed to counter other Mutants. Without them, even the military would suffer heavy losses using conventional weapons. Protecting humanity is our duty—you must understand this."

Though Bolivar Trask was short in stature, his ideals burned bright. His priority was safeguarding humanity, followed by eliminating Mutants. He refused to lose sight of the fundamental goal.

At least, Bolivar hadn't yet succumbed to such extremism.

William Stryker understood the logic in Dr. Trask's words, but the memory of his dead father ignited an uncontrollable hatred.

"I understand, Doctor. But perhaps we could approach this from another angle—using Mutants against Mutants."

Stryker, never missing an opportunity to eliminate Mutants, pressed his idea.

Bolivar nodded. "That's a valid direction. Tell me more."

"My plan is to capture some Mutants, fuse their X-Genes, and create the ultimate Mutant weapon—a Mutant to kill Mutants. I call it the Weapon X Project."

*No villain is too ruthless.* Stryker, driven by his desire for revenge, would stop at nothing.

He knew that while some Mutants were formidable, not all were invincible.

If he couldn't defeat powerful Mutants like Magneto or Aquaman, he could capture newly awakened Mutants for his experiments.

Seduction, deception, drugging, ambushes, traps...

As long as his resolve remained firm, there would always be a way.

"I approve your plan, but keep it clean. Those Mutants are dangerous. If they discover us and retaliate, we won't get a second chance."

Bolivar's stance was clear: he sought to prove human superiority and would relentlessly exterminate Mutants.

He would show no mercy, even to a child Mutant who had just awakened.

In his eyes, Mutants were monsters, not the same species as humans, and thus deserved different treatment.

His secret laboratory housed several Mutants as test subjects.

Humanity was for humans.

Were Mutants still human?

At least in Bolivar's view, Mutants didn't deserve to be called human.

With Bolivar's approval of the Weapon X Project, Stryker was eager to begin.

His first thought was the immortal veteran Logan.

During their service together, Stryker had worked alongside Logan and Victor, knowing Logan was a Mutant—immortal, incredibly strong, and the ideal candidate for Weapon X.

Even though Logan had once saved his life, that didn't matter. He was a Mutant, after all.

As for Victor, aka Sabretooth, he was now with the Hellfire Club. Without certainty of success, Stryker wouldn't act rashly.

Meanwhile, on Skull Island, construction of the base was in full swing.

In the designated area, Han Shaoqing, having returned, took the lead. Using his Universal Gravitation ability, he lifted massive amounts of soil and rock into the air, forming a giant sphere as if performing Planetary Devastation, leaving a massive crater in the ground.

Han Shaoqing then deposited the sphere of earth and rock into the distant ocean, creating a small island.

Next up was Magneto Eric's turn to perform.

Erik hovered in the air, enveloped in a powerful magnetic field. He drew countless metallic substances from beneath the earth and sea, fusing them into an alloy of extraordinary hardness. Within the massive pit Han Shaoqing had created, he forged a sturdy and durable foundation and main framework.

The internal facilities surpassed existing anti-nuclear standards.

Raven, Sean, Alex, Red Tank, and the others each performed their duties. Some laid bricks and tiles, others organized equipment and transported materials, while some went out to hunt or stood guard.

Charles, not a combatant with physical strength comparable to an ordinary person, primarily served as a messenger and monitor. His work, which involved facilitating communication and guarding against sudden monster attacks, was quite demanding.

With so many hands working together, the Mutants' efficiency was remarkable. In just half a day, the basic structure of the steel fortress was complete. Even the Skull Lizard, faced with such a formidable, steel-spiked wall of defense, could only sigh in frustration.

Handsome Guy also stayed busy. Before returning, Han Shaoqing had brought him a battle axe crafted from the dorsal fin of an ancient Godzilla.

At this point, Handsome Guy had not fully developed and was still shorter than the axe itself. However, with his immense strength, lifting the weapon was effortless.
