"Earth has a hollow region containing many large, ancient creatures. These areas are usually isolated from the outside world, but there are connecting passages."
"Skull Island itself floated up from the Hollow Earth, and there's an entrance to that world here. The radiation levels here are relatively high, which is why many prehistoric creatures survive. I haven't seen some of them myself, so we need to be very careful..."
After walking for a while, guided by Han Shaoqing's explanations, the group arrived at a scenic area with a clear lake.
The air was fresh, filled with the scent of flowers and the songs of birds. Rows of egrets flew leisurely overhead, creating a sense of peace and tranquility.
Eric surveyed the surroundings. "This place looks good. We have a water source and mountains for shelter. We can build houses and grow crops here."
"Animals tend to congregate near water sources. Let's look around."
Han Shaoqing casually pointed to several small mounds on the surface of the lake.
Upon closer inspection, the group realized these were Solitary Reef Bull Demons.
These creatures belonged to the buffalo order, typically growing between 12 and 14 meters tall. Their massive horns could reach 18 meters in length, and they weighed tens of tons.
The Solitary Reef Bull Demon retained the behavioral habits of bovids, a trait Han Shaoqing had never witnessed in the Hollow Earth. It was likely a new species that had mutated on Skull Island due to prolonged exposure to high-energy radiation.
Dense vegetation grew along their spines, transforming them into hybrid plant-animal organisms capable of lurking underwater for extended periods. With their heads submerged and plant-covered backs exposed, they resembled mounds of earth covered in vegetation.
As if sensing the commotion on the shore, the Solitary Reef Bull Demon slowly emerged from the water. Its massive body exuded an imposing presence, and with its head lowered, its clear eyes gazed calmly and gently at Han Shaoqing and the others.
"Ooh~"
"Will it attack us?" Alex asked nervously.
"Solitary Reef Bull Demons are herbivores and generally docile, but it's best not to provoke it. Otherwise, those massive horns on its head can become terrifying weapons," Han Shaoqing said.
As he spoke, he stepped to the water's edge and reached out to stroke the bull demon's lowered head.
Judging by its appearance, the Solitary Reef Bull Demon looked rather good-natured. Its horns resembled deer antlers, and its temperament seemed gentle. Sensing Han Shaoqing's goodwill, it remained still.
The moment Han Shaoqing's palm touched the Solitary Reef Bull Demon, a faint red light emanated from his palm—the glow of the Red of All Living Beings, which allowed him to command animals.
At the same instant of contact, he also gained the Solitary Reef Bull Demon's abilities: the capacity to develop four heart chambers when necessary, absorb radiation, perform photosynthesis, and wield the creature's physical strength.
This ability could transform an ordinary person into a minor superhuman in an instant, but for Han Shaoqing, it was merely a marginal improvement—better than nothing, but not particularly useful.
"Relax. Go back and rest."
With those words, the Solitary Reef Bull Demon blinked its eyes, obediently turned, and returned to the water.
White Queen Emma looked at Han Shaoqing curiously. "Lord of the Sea, how many abilities do you actually have?"
"That's a secret. Never let anyone fully understand your capabilities. That's how you live long."
Han Shaoqing merely smiled, avoiding a direct answer.
Artoria watched the Solitary Reef Bull Demon's retreating form, licking her lips. "Such a massive bull... must be enough for many steaks."
Sensing the Dullahan King's malevolent (and hungry) intent, the Solitary Reef Bull Demon shuddered and quickened its pace, its long legs striding swiftly as it ducked back into the water, its head disappearing beneath the surface.
The group continued onward, encountering numerous creatures unique to Skull Island—various herbivores and carnivores, giant insects, and even Icarus's Wings.
These creatures had long been extinct in the outside world, save for the Hollow Earth. Being here felt like stepping back into the prehistoric era.
After walking a while longer, they spotted an ancient wall ahead. The weathered structure was crumbling and broken, but on the relatively intact stone sections, they could see murals painted in yellow pigment.
"Someone's ahead—natives," Charles said, his telepathy easily detecting the tribesmen hidden around the wall. "They mean no harm."
Eric sensed the movement of iron objects nearby, while the White Queen also sensed people in the vicinity.
Except for the inexperienced Raven and her companions, Han Shaoqing, Artoria, and the Sabertooth had all sensed the anomaly long ago.
As they approached the ancient city, a group of Iwi Tribe members appeared before them—their upper bodies bare, adorned with painted patterns, and their waists wrapped in animal hides and grass skirts.
The Iwi Tribe appeared, spears and bows pointed at Han Shaoqing and his group. Silent and unmoving, they slowly advanced.
Raven turned to Charles. "Are you sure they mean us no harm?"
"Yes, they're just afraid we're hostile."
Using Telepathy, Charles quickly learned about the Iwi Tribe and obtained more specific information about Skull Island.
For thousands of years, the Iwi Tribe had lived in isolation on Skull Island.
At some point, the island's giant ape family, the Kong Family, began to protect them from being eaten by other monsters.
In gratitude, the Iwi Tribe came to worship the Kong Family as deities.
The Iwi Tribe were simple and kind. Despite their harsh living conditions, they were serious and rarely spoke, usually communicating through sign language. Yet their days were filled with purpose.
Charles also discovered that they were not the first outsiders to set foot on the island.
Before them, other outsiders had already come.
Facing the advancing Iwi Tribe, Han Shaoqing calmed his group.
The Iwi Tribe indeed meant no harm. After all, they were the true outsiders here.
Han Shaoqing's true intention wasn't invasion, but to quell the conflict between humans and mutants, prevent unnecessary casualties, and conveniently check in to strengthen his own power.
Moreover, the arrival of mutants could provide protection for the Iwi Tribe, at least ensuring they wouldn't be hunted by Skullcrawlers.
The Iwi Tribe had truly been unlucky. Every time outsiders entered Skull Island, it brought them disaster.
This was particularly evident in *Godzilla: King of the Monsters*, where Ghidorah awakened the dormant Titans, including Camazotz.
Camazotz is a bat god from Maya mythology.
In the K'iche' language, it means "Death Bat."
In Mesoamerican myths and legends, Camazotz roams at night with bats, symbolizing darkness, death, and sacrifice, and is considered a malevolent deity who murders and drinks blood.
Later, the Monsterverse Tournament concluded with Godzilla's victory.
Godzilla ordered all the Titans to go into hibernation.
Camazotz, not daring to disobey Godzilla's command, obediently returned to his slumber.
Later, Monarch, in their efforts to explore the Hollow Earth, located an entrance on Skull Island and began blasting it open.
This act reawakened the slumbering Camazotz.
The Dark Lord Camazotz, clearly not in a good mood and disliking sunlight, seized control of the thunderstorm Ghidorah had created earlier. He cloaked Skull Island in the storm, indirectly leading to the extermination of the Iwi Tribe.
In the end, only a single young girl survived from the Iwi Tribe.
If Kong hadn't intervened, it's estimated that no one on the island would have survived.
You could say Monarch is good at nothing except causing trouble. Every time they get involved, they stir up a mess, just like Wang Pangzi from *Tomb Raider Notes*.
If it weren't for Godzilla and Kong tirelessly cleaning up their messes, who knows how many more people would have been killed by Monarch's blunders?
