Chapter 64 - Chapter 64: The Hunter Who Strikes Terror

As a dark wizard whose primary business was the smuggling of cursed artifacts, Nigo Hunigo had heard some very unsettling rumors lately.

Word had been spreading through the black markets of wizarding districts in Britain, France, and Germany about a very young but terrifyingly powerful wizard. This "child" specifically targeted black wizards on the wanted lists and had never once failed a hunt. In those countries, the criminal underworld had given the boy a nickname: "The Hunter."

One of Hunigo's business partners in France had been snatched by this Hunter and hadn't been heard from since. Just two days ago, Hunigo had finally obtained a magical photograph of the boy—and he looked identical to the child currently standing in his doorway.

"Kill him! Avada Kedavra!"

Without a moment's hesitation, Nigo Hunigo whipped out his wand and unleashed the Killing Curse. His subordinates and business associates reacted just as fast, firing their own Killing Curses at Goku.

Seven or eight jets of green light shot toward the boy like lethal lasers, but not a single one found its mark. By the time they finished the incantations, Goku had already blurred from the doorway to a position directly behind them.

"Stupefy!"

With a casual point of his finger, one of the wizards collapsed instantly. The remaining group spun around in a panic, trying to aim at the spot where Goku had been, only to lose sight of him again the moment their lips moved.

"Stupefy!"

Another dark wizard hit the floor.

"Protego!"

The survivors finally wised up. They cast Shield Charms around themselves first, creating translucent barriers before scanning the room for the Hunter.

"Break!"

Goku appeared in front of one wizard and lightly flicked his finger against the magical dome of the Shield Charm. The barrier shattered like glass under the force of the strike.

"Stupefy!"

Goku downed yet another one. While his pure magical power wasn't quite enough to pierce an elite Shield Charm yet, he followed Dumbledore's advice: use physical force to augment his magic.

Grandpa Dumbledore wanted him to hunt these wizards specifically so he could learn how to weave his physical prowess and spellcasting into a single, fluid combat style.

"Run!"

The remaining four, including Nigo Hunigo, began to tremble. They no longer cared about winning; they just wanted to live. Each began to turn on the spot, attempting to Apparate away. They finally understood why so many seasoned, powerful dark wizards had fallen to this child.

"Get back here!"

Seeing his primary target about to vanish, Goku flickered to Hunigo's side. He reached into the swirling vortex of space and grabbed Hunigo's arm just as half the man's body had already disappeared.

With a violent yank, Goku physically tore Hunigo out of the Apparition process. The sudden disruption caused a "Splinch"—Hunigo was forced back into reality, but his wand arm remained behind, severed and left on the floor.

"Stupefy! Episkey!"

Goku wasn't surprised; this wasn't the first time he'd had to pull someone out of a teleport. While knocking Hunigo out with a spell, he simultaneously cast a healing charm to seal the stump of the man's arm, stopping the bleeding.

"Wait, that guy looked like the number two on the list."

After stuffing Hunigo into a magical trunk—one expanded with an Undetectable Extension Charm given to him by Dumbledore—Goku pulled out his stack of posters. He looked closely; one of the three who had successfully Apparated away was indeed Doug, the second-most-wanted wizard in the US.

"I wonder if I can still find him."

Goku closed his eyes and expanded his senses. Almost immediately, he locked onto Doug's ki. "Good, he didn't go far."

With a sharp *crack*, Goku Apparated out of the black-market bar.

...

In a mundane No-Maj apartment near the New York wizarding district, Doug materialized with a loud bang, his face drenched in cold sweat.

"The Hunter, huh? I'll kill you for this one day!" He collapsed onto the bed, gasping for air, but stood up again almost immediately. "This place isn't safe. I'm going to Egypt."

He reached for a high-priced Portkey he had stashed away—an item that would take him to North Africa in an instant. But as his hand touched the object, a jet of red light hit him square in the back.

"Stupefy!"

Goku picked up the unconscious Doug and tossed him into the trunk with Hunigo. When he had first entered the bar, he had memorized the ki signatures of everyone in the room. As long as they didn't flee beyond his fifteen-kilometer range, he could track them down and blink to their side in seconds.

"Time to find Nymphadora!"

After securing the trunk, Goku performed a series of long-range jumps, eventually appearing at the front door of Nymphadora Tonks' home in London.

*Ding-dong!*

Goku pressed the doorbell politely. The door swung open to reveal Tonks, her hair damp as if she'd just finished washing it. She wasn't surprised to see him; lately, Goku had been dropping by almost every night.

"The Headmaster didn't come with you?"

"I've learned Apparition," Goku replied proudly. "I don't need the Headmaster to take me anymore."

As he spoke, he pulled the unconscious bodies of Nigo Hunigo and Doug out of the trunk.

"It's actually them? My boss is going to be grinning like an idiot when he sees this."

Tonks expertly dragged the two men into her living room, reaching out to ruffle Goku's hair. "I need to get these two to the Ministry right away. I'll have an owl send you your share of the reward once the paperwork clears, just like usual."

When Goku had first shown up at her door with two high-profile French fugitives, she had been terrified. Luckily, Dumbledore had been there to explain. Since then, she had become the official Auror responsible for "processing" Goku's captures.

It was extra work, but she loved it—not just because she'd been promoted to Team Leader, but because she got to personally send these monsters to Azkaban.

She was amazed by his efficiency. At first, it was British dark wizards, then those from neighboring countries, and now he was bringing them in from across the Atlantic. If he kept this up, there wouldn't be any dark wizards left to catch.

"I'm heading back now!" Goku nodded and vanished with a *crack*.

To Goku, the reward money was secondary. He hunted to sharpen his magic and to help his friend. But Grandpa Dumbledore had insisted he build up a reserve of gold. Gold, Dumbledore argued, was valuable in almost any world.

Galleons were minted from pure gold, and even if people in other worlds didn't recognize the currency, they would recognize the weight of the precious metal. If Goku ever found himself in a world where he couldn't hunt for food, he could use the gold to buy a meal.
