Chapter 88 – The Alpha Who No Longer Commands Easily

Kael had faced rogue attacks, border wars, assassination attempts, and challenges for his position.
None of them had left him as exhausted as a conversation with Liora.
He strode through the corridor with long, measured steps, his jaw locked so tightly that pain pulsed beneath his temples.
Behind him, the door to Liora's chambers remained shut.
Good.
Because if he looked at her again right now, he wasn't entirely certain what would come out of his mouth.
The conversation had started simply enough.
Questions.
Always questions.
Questions he couldn't answer.
Questions he didn't want to answer.
Questions that somehow managed to reach places inside him that battle never could.
Why were you avoiding me?
Why won't you look at me?
Why do you keep acting like something changed?
The worst part was that she hadn't asked any of them with anger.
She had asked them with honesty.
That made them impossible to ignore.
