A sharp, brittle voice cut through the cold air, shattering the brief warmth between them. "This reality will collapse soon, and it might just take you down with it."
"What?" Evangeline gasped.
She whipped her head around, her heart leaping into her throat. Standing only a few paces away, half-drowned in the creeping twilight mist, was Rudbeka. Her expression was urgent, her eyes burning with a warnings.
"You need to move. Now," Rudbeka commanded, her figure slightly flickering like a dying flame.
Evangeline quickly snapped her gaze back to Silver. He was still standing right beside her, but his amber eyes remained completely vacant, staring directly through Rudbeka as if she were made of nothing but air. He didn't tense, he didn't growl, and his golden aura didn't even flicker.
A cold dread pooled in the pit of her stomach. The horrifying truth solidified in her mind: He doesn't see her. He can't hear her.
