​Without a fraction of a second of hesitation, he dove toward it.

​He sliced deep through the murky abyss, but the lake was fighting back. The further he went, the thicker the water became, pressing against his eardrums like solid iron. He extended his hand, his claws scraping against the abyss until his fingers finally clamped down onto the sturdy bone of her wing.

​The moment he held on, a massive, heavy resistance jerked them both downward. Something ancient and malicious was anchoring her to the bed of the lake, aggressively pulling her into the deep, fighting him for her soul.

​Silver's lungs burned for oxygen, his vision blurring at the edges, but he refused to retreat. "I don't think so," he growled underwater, a torrent of bubbles escaping his bared fangs as his muscles swelled with pure, adrenaline-fueled rage.
