As though he had heard something funny, Lucien chuckled. Tears rolled down the sides of his eyes, and he even had to wipe them away as he clutched his belly.
"They're Alphas, that's true," he said. "But have you forgotten that I am one too? We were all born on the same night, from the same womb, and with the same blood. I am as much an Alpha as they are, no matter how much they try to kick me out of the pack and split my rightful place."
"They're not to be underestimated," I muttered under my breath. My chest tightened with worry.
Rowan, Soren, and Cassian had caused Lucien's disappearance once before. If Magnus hadn't been lying and one of them did hire him, it meant that the three Alphas weren't beneath hiring other mercenaries once more to do their bidding. Rogues had no loyalty― it doesn't mean much to them that Lucien was the strongest rogue there ever was. When banded together, strength came in numbers.
