He rested all through Thursday, and by Friday morning, Corbin and Linda had returned again to "cross-check" his testimony. But of course that was just an excuse to test him again. This time, Damian did not even wait for them to ask. The moment they came in, they noticed the ring by the bedside stand while he sat and waited quietly. The discussion was brief as he maintained his previous testimony. By the end of the interview, he watched Corbin let out a defeated sigh.
The priest personally approached Damian and apologized for the inconvenience he had caused so far before leaving. While he did not specify the inconvenience he meant, any normal person would assume it had to do with the interrogation, but Damian knew that was Corbin's way of apologizing for wrongfully suspecting him.
