Chapter 253 - Chapter 253: The Best Animated Film of the Last Decade

"This anime was amazing."

"I know, good thing we got tickets early, otherwise I would've regretted it."

"I just want to see it a second time now."

"Can't get tickets anymore, right?"

"Yeah, you're right."

People around them started getting up one after another, leaving the screening room while chatting in low voices.

After the ED finished, Shiga Taka pulled Shiozawa Makoto up as well.

Once they were out of the screening room, Shiozawa Makoto said, "What do I do? I'm so excited right now!"

"Hmm?" Shiga Taka looked at Shiozawa Makoto suspiciously.

Shiozawa Makoto raised one hand and placed it on her chest: "I feel like I can't calm down, I've never felt like this before."

Shiga Taka smiled: "That's called 'masterpiece finale syndrome'. Every time I finish a masterpiece, I get this feeling."

Shiozawa Makoto was taken aback: "Is that actually a thing?"

Shiga Taka nodded.

"Still, this Your Name really deserves to be called a masterpiece. In my opinion, it might even rank first among all the anime I've ever watched," Shiozawa Makoto added.

Shiga Taka thought for a moment and analyzed earnestly: "The narrative pacing of this anime is practically perfect, there isn't a single messy part. The art style is incredibly refined, and some of the shots are even aesthetic, but what's more important is that the story is interesting and very moving."

"The meeting of the two across time and space, and Mitsuha falling on her way to find her father, looking at her palm to see 'I love you' written there—it was truly moving."

Shiozawa Makoto said, exhaling lightly, "Now that I've finished watching it, I even want to see it a second time. If I had known, I should have grabbed more tickets for other showtimes."

"I wouldn't have expected this animation to be so good beforehand either," Shiga Taka sighed.

The two left the cinema and wandered around outside for a bit.

Once they got home, Shiga Taka immediately turned on his computer to check out the related discussions online.

On major review websites, many viewers who had finished watching "Your Name" were already singing its praises:

"If you ask me how to rate this animation, my answer is: the best romance animation ever, bar none. After watching it, it makes you really want to have a sweet romance. Those with partners definitely shouldn't miss it; you must go see it, you won't regret it. It's okay if you don't have a partner, you can invite someone you like to go see it. After watching it, confess, and who knows, it might just work out."

"How should I put it? Although it's a romance-themed animation, it's not just about romance. It adds other elements, making it more compelling than ordinary romance animations. In short, this animation is super good, definitely don't miss it."

"I love this movie so much. Before this, I was thinking that Lin Zhiyan had never made an animation primarily focused on romance. Moreover, since this was an original animated film with a self-contained story about romance, I wasn't sure if he could do as well as he did with his previous works. I didn't expect the final quality to far exceed my expectations. If a perfect score is 100, I would give this animation 1,000."

"The directing, script, visuals, and music are all done to perfection. The last animation that made me think this way was Lin Zhiyan's 2006 production, 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica'. But 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica' was a TV series, and with its magical girl theme, its audience is ultimately not as broad as this romance-themed one."

"Watching it in the theater was very moving. I cried along with Taki and Mitsuha in the animation. Without a doubt, this is the best animated film I have seen this year, or perhaps even in my entire life."

"If you ask if this animation has any profound meaning, I suppose it doesn't, but there probably aren't many people who go to see this film looking for profound meaning. As a romance-themed animated film, Lin Zhiyan has undoubtedly delivered a satisfying answer this time."

"It's impressive in every aspect. It can be said that this is yet another pinnacle of Lin Zhiyan's work since 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica'. The two-plus years of waiting were well worth it."

On the forum, many people are also discussing this anime:

"Is it true that Old Thief Lin's new anime 'Your Name' is really good? Crying I thought I'd wait and see at first and didn't rush to buy tickets. I regret it so much now. I should have trusted him, trusted the quality of his anime."

"It's super good. I'm so glad I grabbed a ticket back then, otherwise I'd probably be regretting it now too."

"If you regret it, just hurry up and buy a ticket to see it. What's there to talk about?"

"I want to buy a ticket too, but I can't even get one. Damn it! Why can't the cinemas add more screenings?"

"It's okay, just wait a few more days, it's not like it's going to be pulled from theaters anytime soon. Although, I've already finished watching it once and am preparing for a second viewing."

"It really is very good. It made my heart race. It's just a pity that I'm missing someone I like. If I could watch it with someone I like, it would be even more perfect."

"Those who don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend really should hurry up and go see it. Right now, the viewing enthusiasm is highest among Old Thief Lin's anime fans. Once the word-of-mouth spreads after a while, you'll see that a large number of couples will definitely go see this anime, and then you'll know what it feels like to be miserable."

"I've seen it, I have a girlfriend, so it's not painful."

Shiga Taka, sitting in front of his computer, smiled with a bit of smug satisfaction.

He soon returned to the rating website and wrote a long review for the animated film "Your Name":

"Ever since I started liking anime over a decade ago, I've watched countless shows, and my tastes have become increasingly picky. Even so, Lin Zhiyan manages to create an anime that satisfies me every single time, as if he can read my mind and knows exactly what kind of anime I want to see. This is truly remarkable.

Back to the topic at hand, although I watch more TV anime, I have also seen many animated films, including Hayao Miyazaki's series, Mamoru Hosoda's 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time', 'Summer Wars', 'Wolf Children', and 'The Boy and the Beast', Satoshi Kon's 'Millennium Actress', 'Tokyo Godfathers', and 'Paprika', as well as Mamoru Oshii's 'Ghost in the Shell' and 'The Sky Crawlers'...

This 'Your Name' might not be the most excellent animated film, but it is the best one I've seen in the last decade.

The following content contains spoilers.

First of all, although it's an anime with a romance theme, it's not purely about romance; more accurately, it's romance + disaster."

The story begins with the gimmick of the male and female leads, Taki and Mitsuha, swapping bodies. The destruction of Itomori Town drives the plot forward, and the climax features Taki and Mitsuha meeting across time and their actions to save the town. The ending sees them successfully save the town, and years later, having lost the memories of swapping bodies, they successfully find each other and ask for each other's names.

The pacing of the story is perfect—not messy at all, with no unnecessary parts or need for additions. Furthermore, the overall experience is extremely engaging, drawing the viewer in so that they never feel a single moment of boredom, which is truly impressive.

Secondly, its visual presentation and the integration of the music are both top-tier. Watching it in a movie theater is, without a doubt, an audiovisual feast.

As for its underlying themes, the contrast between the rural countryside and the metropolis of Tokyo might prompt some reflection, as do the elements of traditional culture. However, none of this is what's truly important; what matters is that this anime is genuinely excellent and very moving—undoubtedly a masterpiece among romance animations.
