On the big screen, the animation reaches its final chapter: the resolution.
Because her bicycle is broken, the female lead has no choice but to run back.
She repeats the male lead's name in her heart, thinking, "It's okay, I remember. I will definitely not forget. Taki, Taki, your name is... Taki!"
In the mountains, the festival has already begun.
The female lead runs all the way to the Itomori Substation, where her friend Tesshi arrives just in time on his motorcycle.
The two quickly put their plan into action.
With a loud "boom," the power in the entire town of Itomori goes out.
Then, at the school, Sayaka turns on the broadcast and begins announcing to the whole town, reading from a script, saying that a forest fire has broken out and asking people in certain areas to evacuate to Itomori High School.
The people in town are a bit confused. Although some people do start heading to Itomori High School to evacuate, albeit at a leisurely pace, many others feel that something is wrong.
Meanwhile, at the Town Hall, they react quickly and start searching for the source of the broadcast.
The female lead and her other friend, Tesshi, go to the festival and shout "There's a forest fire!" urging everyone to run, but many people don't take them seriously.
Seeing that they wouldn't make it in time, Tesshi hurriedly told the female lead to go to the town hall and convince the mayor to help.
After the female lead left, Tesshi called out a few more times, but before long, his father appeared. Under his father's authoritative pressure, he could no longer help.
Elsewhere, the source of the school's broadcast was found, and Sayaka was tearfully taken away by people from the town hall.
At this very moment, the female lead realized she had forgotten the male lead's name. However, in order to save Itomori Town, she kept running desperately, thinking as she ran:
"Who are you? Who? Who?"
"Who is that person?"
"Someone important, someone I shouldn't forget, someone I don't want to forget."
"Who are you? Who are you? Who is it? What is your name...?"
As she ran, she looked up and saw that the comet in the sky had split. Anxious, she wasn't paying attention, tripped on a stone slab, and tumbled down a small slope.
Lying on the ground, she remembered what the male lead had said before: "Let's write our names so we won't forget when we wake up."
Thinking this, she slowly opened her eyes and looked at the palm of her right hand, only to see these words written there: "I love you."
She was instantly stunned.
Tears welled up uncontrollably.
She struggled to stand up, and said very sadly, "Like this... how would I even know your name?"
She covered her hand and cried, but soon steadied herself and continued running until she finally found her father.
The interlude "Sparkle" began playing, accompanied by the male lead's reflection from "three years ago": "It was like... a scene from a dream. I just thought, the view was so beautiful."
In the sky, a massive meteor, split from the comet, plummeted rapidly, crashing into Itomori Town with a thunderous "boom."
The singing stopped.
In the cinema, everyone's hearts were in their throats, worried about the situation in Itomori Town within the animation, and anxious about whether the female lead had ultimately succeeded in persuading her father.
Fortunately, the animation soon explained the situation through the male lead's narration: Itomori Town had indeed been destroyed by the falling meteor, but because the mayor had forcibly issued an evacuation order, everyone in the town had miraculously survived—not a single person had died.
Although the female lead's persuasion of her father, the mayor, was not mentioned, it was clear that in the end, her persuasion had succeeded.
Such a natural disaster occurred, yet there was not a single death. To the outside world, this was not just a miracle but also a mysterious enigma. Consequently, the media reported on it extensively, various speculations emerged, and some even went so far as to say that the mayor of Itomori Town could predict the future.
This event drew the intense attention of the male lead "three years ago."
Everyone survived, and Mitsuha, the female lead, was naturally alive as well. However, both the male and female leads had forgotten each other's names, and even each other's existence.
Five years had passed since the male lead visited Itomori Town.
He had long since graduated from high school, and even from university, and had begun looking for jobs everywhere.
Although he had forgotten Mitsuha, he still instinctively kept searching, searching for something, searching for someone.
On a rainy night, he was drinking coffee in a cafe, looking over some notes related to a job interview, when behind him, two people were conversing, talking about a wedding.
These two people were none other than the female lead's friends, Tesshi and Sayaka, who, after several years, were now getting married.
As he listened, the male lead turned his head, sensing something, but by then, the two of them had already paid their bill and left.
On a certain snowy night, the male lead, dressed in a suit, walked across a pedestrian bridge. A woman holding an umbrella walked toward him from the opposite direction.
The camera gave a close-up of the braided cord she was using as a hair tie, but because the umbrella was held low and it was dark, the male lead didn't see her face. It was only after he had walked some distance past her that he belatedly stopped and looked back.
However, the cord was just then obscured by the umbrella, so he couldn't see it again.
By the time the woman also belatedly stopped and looked back, the male lead had already left the bridge.
In the screening hall, in front of the big screen.
Shiga Taka was getting anxious.
He was thinking to himself: No way, right? No way? Is it really going to end with the male and female leads forgetting each other and going their separate ways in life?
What scared him even more was that the story then began to depict the lives of the people in Itomori Town, including the "classmates" who used to mock the female lead, Tesshi and Sayaka, who were now an engaged couple, and the younger sister Yotsuha, who was already in high school...
It really looked like it was about to end just like that.
Fortunately, in the end, the story returns to the beginning: the scene from the start of the animation where the male and female protagonists wake up, leave their homes, board their respective trains, stand by the train doors, and look out through the glass.
Then, the two trains happen to be at the same spot, allowing them to see each other face-to-face through the glass of the train doors.
Just as the heroine Mitsuha had said: "If we meet, I'll know it's you right away. I'll know that you're the one who switched bodies with me, and you'll know that I'm the one who switched bodies with you."
Their eyes suddenly lit up.
"I have always been searching for..."
"Searching for... someone!"
The trains passed each other. After reaching their stations, they both rushed off, running everywhere and searching, until they arrived at a flight of stairs—one at the top, one at the bottom—finally able to face each other again.
The two stood there, looking at each other for two seconds. Then, one began to walk up the stairs, and the other began to walk down.
As the distance between them closed, they reached the same step, but neither said a word. They passed each other, and the male lead continued until he reached the top of the stairs.
Only then did he stop, take a deep breath, and turn around to call out, "Um... I feel like I've seen you somewhere before."
The female lead stopped and turned to look at him. Tears streamed down her cheeks, falling drop by drop. She quickly replied, "Me too," and offered a small smile.
Tears of emotion also fell from the male lead's eyes, and then, they both said in unison, "What is your name...?"
The camera pans upward, the title of the animation appears, the ED begins, and the movie comes to an end.
In front of the big screen, Shiga Taka let out a sigh of relief.
He didn't get up right away, but listened to the ED as he sighed, "It was so good! It was truly so good!"
