The bell rang, echoing loudly through the classroom. Students scrambled to pack their bags and spill into the hallway, voices bouncing off lockers and walls.
Miles Carter shoved his chair back with a loud scrape, muttering under his breath. "Psychology… what a waste of time."
He stomped out into the hall, scanning for something - anything - to distract himself from the lingering irritation Yurina Harusukki had left in his mind. She was sitting a few benches away with her friend Chloe Johnson, quietly chatting, calm as ever.
Brian Williams, Miles' best friend, jogged up beside him. "Man, did you see Chloe? She's cute. You gonna say something?"
Miles waved him off impatiently. "Don't even start. I'm not thinking about that."
Brian smirked. "Uh-huh. Sure. But… what about Yurina?"
Miles groaned, running a hand through his hair. "Ugh… that girl is - super annoying! Know-it-all. Thinks she's perfect at everything. Drives me crazy."
Brian laughed and shook his head. "Classic. You're always mad about something, Miles. Never changes."
Miles scowled and muttered under his breath. "I'm not always mad…"
Brian just laughed louder. "Yeah, right. You're like a storm cloud walking through the halls."
Miles threw him a glare, but said nothing. Across the hallway, Yurina continued quietly chatting with Chloe, completely unaware of the small conversation brewing behind her.
Miles muttered again, exasperated. "She's impossible…"
Brian laughed one more time and clapped him on the shoulder. "Yep. You'll never change."
