The action film "mr. & mrs. smith," produced by Capet Pictures and distributed by Universal Pictures, opened in 3,420 theaters in North America, easily taking the weekend box office crown with $50.5 million.
The number of newspapers giving good reviews and bad reviews was also evenly split. The Hollywood Reporter and The Washington Post both gave positive reviews: "Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie show the sharp edge of a new-age couple."
Negative reviews from the San Francisco Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and others stated: "This is just an over-emotional and idiotic excess action film."
However, Charles didn't care about these. This movie was indeed a popcorn flick, relying on the appeal of two stars to earn box office.
Moreover, just one week after "mr. & mrs. smith" was released, Warner Bros.' "batman begins" premiered. Given the fierce competition in the summer blockbuster season, most film companies would not dare to release their highly anticipated works at this time.
In Thousand Oaks, Ventura County, California, Charles lay by the swimming pool at Britney Spears' estate, drinking a beverage and reading a newspaper.
Britney, climbing out of the pool, came to Charles with some dissatisfaction, chiding, "What are you looking at? Didn't we say we'd swim together?"
"Uh, look, Michael Jackson was declared innocent in Santa Barbara court last weekend," Charles said, handing the newspaper to Britney.
"Hmm, let me see," Britney Spears took the newspaper and began to read, "Ah, it was announced last weekend!"
Charles got up from the chair, put on his slippers, and brought Britney a glass of iced fruit juice, shaking his head as he said, "What a pity, Michael was terribly harmed by these shameless fraudsters."
"Alas, this lawsuit took two years, and Michael's heart was greatly hurt," Britney had also collaborated with Michael Jackson. Although she was set up at the VMA awards ceremony before, she had already been in contact with Michael Jackson's side.
"Charles, would Michael molest children?" Britney didn't quite believe it.
Charles glanced at Britney; she was still sexy and beautiful, with no scandals like marriage, pregnancy, or alcoholism. Her life had changed.
"Does it matter?" Charles shrugged, "The cheapest thing in this world is the truth!"
"Those people are too bad," Britney's mind couldn't grasp Charles's deeper meaning, but Michael Jackson was confirmed to have been wronged.
"There are still many fans supporting him. After the hearing, many fans drove on the mountain roads to celebrate and support Michael," Britney said, putting down the newspaper.
Charles stood by the pool, wearing only a pair of baggy swim trunks, with his hands on his hips, enjoying the sun's embrace.
Hearing Britney's words, he replied, "Actually, I quite like his songs too. I heard he's planning to leave the United States for a while."
"He moved out after Neverland Ranch was searched in '03, to a rented villa in Beverly Hills!"
Britney picked up the sunscreen directly, walked over to Charles to apply it for him, and reminded him, "Aren't you afraid of getting sunburned?"
"A real man, afraid of this sun?"
Britney smiled, forcefully pushed Charles into the pool, and continued, "A real man can swim ten laps!"
After speaking, Britney also jumped in. Charles embraced the Lady who came in, tore off Britney's sexy bikini, and began to kiss her.
No wonder she's called "Little Sweetie"; the title "America's Sweetheart" is truly well-deserved, presenting a picture of playful splashing in the pool under the sun.
In the 2005 summer blockbuster season, besides the conclusion of Michael Jackson's lawsuit and the scandal involving Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the biggest event was the incomprehensible behavior and actions of superstar Tom Cruise.
First, Tom Cruise high-profilely announced his new relationship with Katie Holmes, the female lead of "batman begins," this year.
The two, deeply in love, frequently showed off their affection in the media, and because Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes needed to promote "war of the worlds" and "batman begins" respectively, they often had to accept interviews on television programs.
Last month, Tom Cruise suddenly fell into a state of ecstasy on "The Oprah Show," the highest-rated talk show in the United States, and jumped onto the sofa to express his love and joy for his new girlfriend, startling Oprah and many viewers.
Not only that, at the beginning of this month, Tom Cruise again got into a shouting match with host Matt Lauer on the "Today" show, extensively promoting Scientology doctrines and directly criticizing Ms. Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants after giving birth.
An enraged Tom Cruise directly called psychiatry a "pseudoscience" on the show and referred to host Lauer as an "old hand," causing a public outcry.
Tom Cruise, who frequently appeared on shows to promote his new film "war of the worlds," instead of promoting the movie properly, staged consecutive "sofa jumping" and "shouting match" incidents, which also displeased Steven Spielberg, the producer and director of "war of the worlds."
Now, Tom Cruise's gossip and erratic behavior have become the laughingstock of countless people!
On the other side, after Cape Entertainment acquired Marvel Company, Ike Perlmutter stated in an interview with Rolling Stone: "Charles Capet just treats Marvel Company as an expensive toy!"
Cape Entertainment, however, directly announced that it would invest no less than $300 million to develop two blockbusters, "iron man" and "Thor," to be produced entirely by its subsidiary, Marvel Studios.
"iron man" is scheduled for summer 2007;
"Thor" is scheduled for summer 2008;
A Cape Entertainment spokesperson declared: The company has already made long-term plans for Marvel Company!
Charles, who was having a wild time with Britney Spears in Thousand Oaks, was too lazy to worry about Ike Perlmutter anymore.
"Marvel Company is a really expensive toy!" Britney lay in Charles's arms, looking at the newspaper and laughing.
"It is a toy, what's the problem? Marvel Company originally sold comics and toys!" Charles actually thought Ike Perlmutter was not wrong.
Anyway, now that Charles owned Marvel Company, he was invincible, regardless of whether it was Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, or Universal.
In the future, the marvel universe will be an important part of Cape Entertainment!
