Chapter 152 - Chapter 152: Amazing Changes

While Cape Entertainment's acquisition of Marvel Company caused some discussion in Hollywood, many film studio executives watched with a 'wait-and-see' attitude.

They believed that Charles Capet's acquisition of Marvel Company for over $400 million was a complete loss, as it had lost the rights to its popular characters, making it difficult for Marvel Company to revive.

Charles's privatization of Marvel Company cost over $400 million in cash, and combined with Marvel Company's current debt, it was indeed an acquisition worth over $400 million.

While many were watching the show, Robert Iger, the new ceo of Disney Headquarters, frowned deeply and sighed.

"Dick, what do you think?" Robert Iger said in his office, putting down the newspaper with news about Cape Entertainment's acquisition of Marvel Company.

Dick Cook, the current chairman of Disney Motion Pictures Group, is responsible for Walt Disney Pictures, Buena Vista International, Walt Disney Animation, Touchstone Pictures, Hollywood Pictures, and Miramax, among other film and television subsidiaries.

"Charles Capet might have some different feelings for Marvel Comics," Dick Cook himself was not optimistic about acquiring Marvel Company.

Robert Iger shook his head, "In the future, film and television will be an era of IP value. The thousands of character copyrights in Marvel Comics will be an inexhaustible treasure for Charles Capet!"

For Robert Iger, who pursued IP storage, the idea of acquiring Marvel Company had come to him long ago, just like Warner Bros. holding DC Comics, able to develop comic-to-film adaptations at any Time.

"Robert, but our most important task now is still the negotiation for cooperation with Pixar," Dick Cook reminded him.

Robert Iger nodded and said, "I have already submitted a proposal to the Board of Directors to acquire Pixar. Now our most important task is to persuade Steve Jobs to agree to our merger and acquisition!"

Steve Jobs owns half of Pixar's shares, and Robert Iger must win over the strong-willed Steve Jobs. This is the best way to solve Disney's current internal and external difficulties.

"You know how bad Michael and Steve's relationship is!" Dick Cook said, shrugging his hands helplessly. The mess left by Michael Eisner, the former Disney ceo who had just resigned, urgently needed to be fixed.

This summer in Hollywood, not only did Michael Eisner, the monarch who had ruled The Walt Disney Company for nearly 20 years, leave;

Another parent company, Viacom Group, which owned Paramount, also began its split: a new company named CBS, owned CBS Broadcasting Network, UPN Broadcasting Network, and other businesses;

Another new company continued to retain the name Viacom, owning V Cable Network, Nickelodeon Children's Cable Network, BET Black Cable Network, and several other cable networks, as well as Paramount Film Production Group.

CBS Group and New Viacom Group will be listed separately, with the Redstone family's National Amusements as the controlling shareholder of both companies!

The chairman and ceo of New Viacom Group is Tom Freston, who has always managed the V Television Network.

"The Viacom Group split is estimated to be completed by the end of the year or early next year," Charles listened to David Mesel's report in the Marvel Company office.

After Charles acquired Marvel Company, he promoted David Mesel to be one of the co-chairmen, managing Marvel Company's operational licensing, as well as its toy and comic businesses;

The other co-chairman is Kevin Feige, Avi Arad's deputy, who heads Marvel Studios and oversees film and television development.

"By the end of the year or early next year, that's when Sherry Lansing, chairman of Paramount, leaves, and Brad Grey officially takes office," Charles said, looking at Kevin Feige on the other side.

"You've been in contact with Paramount, are you planning to have Paramount distribute Marvel Studios' films?"

Kevin Feige nodded, "That's right, we plan to have Paramount handle the global distribution of films produced by Marvel Studios, but we haven't quite agreed on the distribution commission yet."

"No need, Capet Pictures has the capability for North America distribution, and we'll take our Time with the overseas market," Charles can now develop Marvel films.

"Were you planning to develop iron man before?"

David Mesel and Kevin Feige looked at each other and then nodded.

"Kevin, you've been involved in the production of many Marvel character films. Since you also support the idea of a marvel universe, let's start the preparations for 'iron man,' developed independently by Marvel Studios." Charles doesn't have much capital right now, but this 'iron man' is scheduled for 2007, and Capet Pictures will not be short of funds next year.

Kevin Feige is a producer, and Marvel Company's creative committee was directly disbanded the day after Charles acquired Marvel.

Marvel Studios' first independently developed film will be 'iron man'!

"For the avengers universe, iron man and captain america are in our hands, but for the hulk character, we have an agreement with Universal, and the rights to hulk belong to Universal," Kevin Feige said with a worried frown.

"Ang Lee's 'hulk', hasn't Universal learned its lesson yet?" Charles smiled, then shook his head.

"Universal released one in 2003, with a five-year copyright period. If Universal doesn't release a sequel in 2008, the copyright will automatically revert." Charles would not follow Marvel's approach in his previous life, to collaborate with Universal to develop 'the incredible hulk' just to include hulk in the avengers, even giving up the distribution rights for hulk's solo film in exchange for Marvel's free use in the avengers.

Anyway, Charles can first develop iron man, Thor, captain america, Ant-Man, and so on. 'the avengers' can wait until hulk automatically returns. If Universal releases 'hulk 2' in 2008, Charles will then discuss cooperation with Universal.

"Also, when casting for the marvel universe, there's no need to choose big-name actors. You can choose suitable newcomers as leads. At the same Time, the contracts between actors and Marvel Studios must be detailed, and the number of films signed should be divided into individual hero films and group hero films, and even cross-over appearances in hero films..."

Charles would absolutely not allow actors like Robert Downey Jr. to receive such high salaries as in his previous life. The marvel universe and the actors are tied together; I make you famous and rich, and you must also make me a lot of money.

"By the way, there are also Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the avengers, but they are Mutants. Find a way to discuss with 20th Century Fox. We cannot change the system if we get them back."

"Also, I heard that 20th Century Fox wants Lionsgate to take over the anti-hero character Deadpool, whose rights expire this year from Artisan. Refuse! From now on, Marvel Company will not sell any copyrights, and will try its best to recover the character copyrights that are out there!"

"In the future, no new heroes can appear in the Mutants and fantastic four systems." If it weren't for the current good sales of the fantastic four and x-men comic series, Charles would have wanted to stop their publication directly.

No wonder Disney in his previous life didn't stop publishing these two comics until 2014; they were second only to Spider-Man in Marvel Comics!
